Art in North Augusta: A Colorful Celebration of Women Artists

If you find yourself strolling through North Augusta this month, you’re in for a treat! The newly opened Perspectives III: Five Women and Their Art exhibit is bringing a splash of creativity and inspiration to the town. The exhibit, located at the Arts and Heritage Center of North Augusta, has been turning heads since its launch on November 6th, and it’s poised to be a must-see until December 20th.

A Showcase of Talent

This vibrant exhibit features works from five talented artists: Betty Perry, Lucy Weigle, Judy Avertt, Lillie Morris, and Elizabeth Moretez Brit. Each artist brings her own unique flair, showcasing a collection of abstract and landscape paintings that reflect personal perspectives and journeys. As the artists themselves put it, “we are all known for our abstract work, but we all come at it with different perspectives,” stated Lillie Morris as she admired the collaborative spirit of the exhibit.

The Artists’ Journey

One standout in the exhibit, Betty Perry, has been painting for most of her life. After challenging herself to dive back into art six years ago, she renovated a “ratty little building” where she now creates her works. Perry expressed her joy in the freedom painting brings, saying, “There’s nothing wrong you can do, and you can do it over if you mess up.” This refreshing outlook is not just empowering but is evident in the lively colors and textures she uses in her paintings.

Meanwhile, Lucy Weigle brought forth beautiful landscape and abstract pieces, one of which highlights the stunning Savannah River. “There are so many beautiful things to be inspired by, and we’re on the river, so this is the river,” Lucy shared. It’s clear that nature plays a big role in her artistic vision.

Celebrating Creativity and Connection

Judy Avertt, another passionate artist in the collective, has been painting since her teenage years. She has a special love for both abstract art and nature-inspired landscapes and has 14 pieces on display at the exhibit. “It’s good to have a show, and it’s my honor to be among these women artists because they are very good, which makes me feel good,” Judy said, highlighting the supportive environment that this exhibit fosters.

The exhibit not only showcases beautiful artwork but also promotes a sense of community by celebrating the achievements of women artists. This event invites everyone, from art lovers to casual visitors, to appreciate the creativity and hard work that goes into each piece.

Visit and Experience the Magic

The art exhibit is free to the public, making it accessible for everyone to enjoy. Whether you’re an art aficionado or just curious about what’s happening in town, be sure to stop by the Arts and Heritage Center. You might just find the perfect piece that resonates with you or inspires your next creative adventure!
