Good morning, Augusta! As the sun rises this beautiful September 23rd, residents are treated to a mostly sunny start to the day. With temperatures expected to climb to a sweltering 95°F, you might want to grab your sunglasses and a cold drink because it’s going to feel like over 100 degrees outside! Smaller winds from the southeast will be noticeable, but they’ll likely not change the hot conditions.
This morning started off on a lovely note with a low temperature of 68°F. As we go through the day, expect more sunshine mixed with clouds as the mercury continues to rise. The chance of rain today is sitting comfortably at just 10%, so it looks like it will largely be a dry day. However, do keep an eye on the clouds as they start to gather this afternoon. Winds are gentle, blowing between 1 and 5 mph, making it a perfect day for outdoor plans as long as you stay hydrated!
Now, let’s take a look at tomorrow! Tuesday also promises a combo of sunshine and clouds, with a low of 70°F and highs reaching around 93°F. The likelihood of seeing any rain remains low at 10%, so you can continue that picnic or evening walk without much worry. Winds will again be soft, coming in from the south.
However, all that is expected to change by the middle of the week. Wednesday morning will start off warm, with a low of 68°F, and while the high will hover around 90°F, clouds will start to invade our perfectly sunny skies. Here comes the twist: the chance for rain increases to 30% by Wednesday evening, so if you have plans after work, it might be a good idea to bring an umbrella just in case!
Now, let’s talk about what’s happening in the tropics! There’s currently a lot of activity brewing out there. Invest 97-L, which you might start hearing referred to as Helene soon, is brewing in the Caribbean Ocean. This system has a fair amount of confidence for tropical development, and forecasters are predicting that it could head through the Gulf of Mexico. As we look towards Wednesday night, it could bring some much-needed heavy rainfall to the greater CSRA area.
With the active tropics in play, our rain concerns will continue from Wednesday through Saturday. Although today seems quiet, it’s a good idea to stay informed and prepared. Make sure your raincoat is nearby and perhaps keep some indoor plans in mind this week just in case the weather takes an unexpected turn.
So in summary, enjoy the sunshine today and tomorrow, but be ready for potential showers midweek, especially as the activity in the tropics develops further. Whatever you choose to do this week, make sure to stay safe, stay hydrated, and, of course, enjoy this beautiful fall season in Augusta!
