Good morning, Augusta! As we step into this lovely September day, it looks like we might need to grab those umbrellas. It’s going to be a wet morning with rain expected early on, making way for cloudy skies and a chance of showers in the afternoon. We’re looking at a high of about 79°F and some gentle breezes moving in from the east-northeast at around 10 to 15 mph. So, as you plan your day, make sure to keep that raincoat handy since there’s a 90% chance of rain!
As we transition into the evening, prepare for showers to continue early on, giving way to cloudy skies overnight. It looks like we’ll dip down to around 70°F with the winds calming slightly to 5 to 10 mph. The chance of rain will decrease to about 40% later in the night, but it’s always good to stay prepared just in case. Remember, a little rain never hurt anyone!
While we’re all set for a rainy day, let’s shine a spotlight on some of the bright stars from our local community! We’re thrilled to introduce a new segment called “A Plus Athlete”, where we celebrate exceptional student-athletes from our very own Augusta area. Each week during the school year, we’ll highlight one such talent, and at the end of the year, they’ll have a chance to win a $2,000 scholarship!
This week, we’re proud to honor Kerri Fluellen, a remarkable student-athlete from Josey High School. Kerri is not just excelling in sports; she’s also shining academically with a perfect 4.0 GPA and currently ranks 3rd in her graduating class. Talk about a double threat!
Kerri’s commitment doesn’t end with her academic achievements. She has dedicated over 100 hours to community service. You’ll find her actively engaged in initiatives aimed at helping the less fortunate, such as distributing food and clothing to the homeless. It’s heartwarming to see how she balances her sporting commitments with her compassion for others.
Speaking of sports, Kerri is an outstanding two-sport athlete who plays both softball and basketball for Josey High. As a rising junior, she’s already attracted multiple Division I offers for basketball, showcasing her talents and potential on the court. Her coaches and teachers can’t say enough wonderful things about her dedication and character. They describe her as a model student and a role model for her peers.
Is there a young athlete in your life who deserves recognition? We want to hear about them! You can nominate someone for the A Plus Athlete segment by sending an email to athlete@wfxg.com or by filling out a nomination form online. It’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the hard work and achievements of young people in our community.
As we head into this rainy day, remember to stay safe, support one another, and take inspiration from incredible young people like Kerri Fluellen. Together, let’s celebrate the spirit of community and the bright futures ahead for our local athletes!
