Graniteville caught a glimpse of the magic from the Land of Oz as it hosted the kick-off event for the United Way of Aiken County Inc. fundraising campaign for the 2024-25 year. The event took place on August 30 at the Family Y, and it was evident that this year’s theme, “There is no place like the United Way,” was inspired by the beloved classic film, “The Wizard of Oz.”
The spirit of the Wizard came alive as board members of the United Way donned costumes representing iconic characters from the film. From Dorothy to the Scarecrow, each character brought a sense of fun and nostalgia to the gathering. It was hard not to smile while seeing familiar faces dressed in such whimsical fashion, reminding everyone of the importance of community and the fun that can be had while doing good.
One of the highlights of the event was the agency faire, where various local organizations supported by the United Way showcased their work. Attendees had the opportunity to interact with these agencies, learning about their valuable services and how they positively impact the lives of countless individuals in the community. This engagement helped to illustrate the many ways in which the United Way serves as a vital resource for Graniteville and surrounding areas.
Entertainment was provided by a talented group from the East Aiken School of the Arts, who filled the room with delightful performances. Their songs resonated with both the young and old, creating an atmosphere of joy and warmth. This entertainment added a special touch to the luncheon, which was generously provided by Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
The event was made possible not only through United Way’s efforts but also thanks to sponsorship from local businesses and institutions such as Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, AHH Sunshine, USC Aiken, and the Family Y. Their commitment to supporting the community underscores the collaborative spirit that makes Graniteville a wonderful place to live and work.
Among the attendees, many shared their connections to the United Way, expressing appreciation for the services provided and the difference they make in the lives of others. There’s a special kind of bond that forms when people come together for a common good, and the atmosphere at the event was nothing short of heartwarming.
The United Way of Aiken County will be focusing on various initiatives in the coming year, and they are eager to reach their fundraising goals to continue supporting essential services. With the involvement from local agencies and the community’s generous spirit, there’s no doubt they will achieve great things.
If you missed the event but are looking for ways to contribute, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. Whether through donations, volunteer work, or simply spreading the word about the incredible work being done, every little bit helps. After all, just like in “The Wizard of Oz,” it’s the collective efforts of many that lead to true change.
Graniteville’s dedication to supporting one another shines bright, and with the launch of this campaign, the future looks promising. So, remember, when it comes to community support, “There is no place like the United Way!” Together, we can make a difference.
