This past Saturday, the lovely city of Aiken, S.C. was filled with excitement as families gathered for the annual Trick-or-Treat on the Trails event hosted by the local YMCA. It’s a delightful Halloween tradition that draws in crowds and fills the air with laughter, spooky costumes, and, of course, plenty of candy! The event has grown over the years, typically bringing together around 800 to 1,000 kids for a night of festive fun.
Executive Director Samantha Whittaker shared that this year, out of a heartwarming desire to assist the community, the event was made completely free of charge. “We opened up our place to the community and saw how badly they were hurting. We decided to shift it and make it a free event,” she explained. It was all about creating a fun, familiar space for children and families, especially during such challenging times.
The trail where the event takes place had suffered some damage, but thanks to the dedication of eager volunteers, it was swiftly cleaned up and transformed into a safe, enchanting spot for the festivities. The wonderful turnout this year was an encouraging reminder of the kindness and resilience of the Aiken community. Parents and kids alike were thrilled to walk the decorated trails, collecting goodies and sharing smiles.
As the Halloween season marches on, the fun doesn’t stop here! Right on the heels of the Trick-or-Treat event, the North Augusta YMCA is hosting a Trunk or Treat on Sunday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.. Families are invited to come and enjoy a trunk-full of treats while celebrating this spooky season with their neighbors.
The excitement doesn’t end with the trunk or treat! Families in Augusta can look forward to a variety of community events next week, complete with candy, games, and more festive fun. It’s a fantastic opportunity to come together, share laughter, and forge connections within the community.
The annual Western Carolina State Fair is also wrapping up on Sunday at the Aiken Fairgrounds. It’s the perfect spot for locals to enjoy rides and attractions. This year, there’s a donation center at the gate specifically set up for Hurricane Helene relief, showing just how dedicated the community is to supporting one another during tough times.
As families gear up for more Halloween happenings, it’s heartwarming to see the Aiken community come together. The Trick-or-Treat on the Trails event not only offered a night of fun but also stood as a testament to the spirit of giving and community support in these times of need. The Aiken YMCA’s efforts, along with the support from local residents, have truly made this Halloween one to remember.
