Excitement Grows for Augusta’s Annual Trick or Treat on Broad Street Amid Hurricane Recovery Efforts

Excitement Builds for Trick or Treat on Broad Street in Augusta

As October rolls in and the air gets crisp, the Halloween spirit is brewing in Augusta. The annual Trick or Treat on Broad Street, hosted by Support Downtown Augusta, is gearing up for what could be the biggest turnout yet. After Hurricane Helene caused significant storm damage in many neighborhoods, traditional trick-or-treating is not feasible for many families this year. This has sent a wave of enthusiasm and support for the upcoming event, promising to be a shining beacon of joy for the community.

Community Call for Candy Donations

In preparation, Support Downtown Augusta is reaching out to the community with a request for candy donations. Claire Riche, the organization’s founder, shared her enthusiasm for the event, noting that last year’s attendance was around 1,000 children and their families. “We’re expecting to have way more this year, just because of the storm damage,” she mentioned, underscoring the importance of community support.

Residents are encouraged to drop off candy donations at the Book Tavern, located at 978 Broad St.. “Candy donations are a big deal this year, just because we are expecting so many extra kids. Normally, we just accept the larger donations from sponsors but [this year] even just one bag helps,” Riche explained, emphasizing that every little bit counts and contributes to making this Halloween special for children in the area.

Event Details

Mark your calendars! The Trick or Treat on Broad will take place on October 26th from 5 to 7 p.m. This fantastic event is open to children age 12 and under, ensuring a joyful evening filled with treats and spooky fun!

More Than Just Candy

This year, the event isn’t just about trick-or-treating; there are also exciting avenues for community involvement. Mod Ink Tees, a local screen printing shop, is stepping up as a candy stop while also selling event merchandise. The proceeds from this special merchandise will aid in hurricane relief efforts. This is a wonderful chance to contribute to the community while grabbing some fun gear!

Growing Participation

As of now, over 40 businesses have signed up to participate in Trick or Treat on Broad Street, including Redemption Church and Garden City Social. The list of participating venues continues to grow, creating an extraordinary buzz around the event. A comprehensive map pinpointing all candy stops will be available on the event night, allowing families to navigate the fun easily through QR codes posted around downtown.

For those eager to get a sneak peek, an incomplete list of participants can be found on the Support Downtown Augusta’s Facebook page, but don’t forget to enjoy the mystery of discovering more stops the night of!

Join in the Fun!

As we look forward to this festive celebration, there’s no doubt that Trick or Treat on Broad Street presents a unique opportunity for Augusta to come together, especially in light of recent challenges. With community involvement and tons of candy, this event promises to bring smiles and laughter to families who need it the most. So gather your friends and family, contribute to the candy drive if you can, and prepare for a delightful evening on Broad Street!
