Graniteville, S.C. – A somber morning unfolded in Graniteville as a traffic accident resulted in the untimely death of a 46-year-old local man. The heartbreaking incident took place early Thursday, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
According to local authorities, the crash occurred on the morning of the incident at about 7:13 a.m., at the intersection of Ascauga Lake Road and Breezy Hill Road, approximately three miles west of Graniteville. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Jeremy Willetts, who was driving a four-wheeler.
In a report from the South Carolina Highway Patrol, it was established that Willetts was traveling west when his vehicle collided with a Chevrolet van that was heading south on Ascauga Lake Road. The circumstances of the accident suggest that the four-wheeler was navigating a power-line path before it entered the intersection, where it met the van.
The impact was severe, causing the van to trap Willetts and his four-wheeler underneath it. Tragically, Willetts was pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m. by officials from the coroner’s office. Fortunately, authorities reported that no other injuries were sustained in the crash.
As the morning progressed, Aiken County deputies swiftly responded to the scene. By 7:38 a.m., they had commenced blocking off Breezy Hill Road to manage the traffic that significantly increased in the area following the accident. By 7:56 a.m., both lanes of traffic on either side of the intersection were completely obstructed as responders worked diligently to address the situation.
This incident has sparked concern among residents about traffic safety in the area. The community is no stranger to the potential hazards presented by intersections and paths frequented by both vehicles and pedestrians. As Graniteville processes this tragedy, many are left wondering how such accidents can be prevented in the future.
This accident serves as a harsh reminder of the importance of road safety and awareness, particularly at intersections where visibility can be compromised. Emergency responders and local law enforcement are regularly reviewing safety measures to ensure that the citizens of Graniteville can travel safely.
As the investigation continues into the details surrounding this tragic event, the community of Graniteville stands together in support of Jeremy Willetts’ family during this painful time.
