Temporary Bus Stop Changes in North Augusta for Local Students

North Augusta, S.C. — In a recent announcement, the Aiken County Public School District has made some temporary adjustments to bus stops for students attending Paul Knox Middle and North Augusta High Schools residing in the Hammond Hills neighborhood. Let’s dive into the details of what’s changing and why.

What’s Happening?

Since some roads in the Hammond Hills area are currently impassable due to numerous downed trees and power lines, the school district has decided to combine several bus stops. This will help ensure that students have a reliable way to get to school safely.

  • The previous stops at Stanton Drive & Brooks Drive and Stanton Drive & Hastings Place will now be merged into a single stop at Hammond Drive at Stanton Drive.
  • Students who used to be picked up at Medie Avenue & Indian Mound Drive will now catch the bus at a combined stop at Riverview Drive & Medie Avenue.
  • For the stops at West Woodlawn Avenue & Dunbarton Drive and those on Campbellton Drive, they will now join to form a new stop at Amherst Drive at West Woodlawn Avenue.

Fortunately, students attending Hammond Hill Elementary School will not be affected, as all of their usual bus stops will remain operational.

What Should Parents Do?

In light of the current situation, the school district encourages families living in the affected Hammond Hills neighborhood to either walk with their children to the bus stop or to make alternative transportation arrangements. This is especially important given the current conditions on the roads.

Safety First

It’s vital to remember that sidewalks may be blocked in certain areas, visibility may be restricted due to debris, and some power lines might still be hanging low. To help keep everyone safe, additional law enforcement will be present along the revised bus routes as they monitor the situation and ensure the safe travel of students and families.

What’s Next?

The school district has stated that they are closely monitoring the road conditions and will inform the community as soon as it is safe to revert to the original bus stops. Until then, keeping everyone informed is a top priority. Regular updates will be communicated to ensure that families are aware of any further changes.

Final Thoughts

It’s always a good time to remind everyone about the importance of staying mindful of safety, especially in situations where conditions can change unexpectedly. If you or someone you know lives in the Hammond Hills area, be sure to stay updated and keep an eye on the roads while looking out for each other. Remember, a little kindness can go a long way during times of change.

As our community comes together to navigate these temporary changes, let’s continue to support one another. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to ensure the safety of our students!
