Summer has picked up its pace and the city of Aiken is feeling the heat. This year’s temperatures are flirting with record highs. It’s no secret, the city has definitely been feeling the surge. But amidst the searing days, the peaches are relishing it.
An Unprecedented Crowd in the Third Year of Celebration
The annual peach fest at Cold Creek Nursery has witnessed a surge in its patronage. Elated event organizers exclaim that the festival, which is celebrating its third year, has so far drawn one of the largest crowds ever seen. A dynamic member of the market staff reported having nearly 70 baskets ready to sell. Each basket bears testimony to the regional peach production passion with every peach hailing from the Johnston, South Carolina area.
The Versatility of Peaches
Emphasizing the flexibility of peaches, Blye Eichenberg suggested numerous ways to savor this delightful stone fruit. “Even if they’re beginning to turn bad, you can transform them into jams, ice cream, preserves. So ripe or not ripe, peaches are amazingly versatile. Do come to visit us!” encouraged Eichenberg.
The Market Entertains All
Beyond the luscious peaches, the market entertained visitors on several other fronts. Flannigan’s ice cream delivered their services in their roving truck, dishing out delectable frozen delights for attendees. Not to be out shadowed, the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) also marked its presence. Offering the chance for warm-hearted attendees to adopt a cuddly kitten or puppy, they added another heartwarming aspect to the event.
