Good morning, North Augusta! As we step into the chilly December days, let’s take a moment to celebrate the remarkable achievements of some of our local heroes and bright students. This warming encouragement highlights the value and power of education and service, a blend that instills respect and commitment within our community.
First on our list is Taylor Corbett, a proud native of North Augusta, who is making waves – quite literally! – aboard the USS New Jersey, the United States Navy’s newest fast-attack submarine. Homeported in Norfolk, Virginia, Corbett’s journey began right here at Fox Creek High School, where he graduated in 2020.
Corbett is currently using his skills as a sonar technician (submarines) and reflects profoundly on his experience. “I joined the Navy to better myself and to help other people in the process,” he shared. He believes that the experiences, skills, and values he developed growing up in North Augusta have significantly contributed to his Navy journey. “I worked a retail job back home, and I learned how to deal with people politely, and I learned that can get you far,” he notes, emphasizing the importance of treating others as you wish to be treated.
Shifting focus to education, let’s applaud the academic excellence at The Citadel! The 2024 spring semester saw exceptional cadets who have dived deep into their studies earning the prestigious Gold Stars, awarded to those achieving a 3.7 grade point average or higher. Congratulations to Brandon Lee, Connor Salch, and Luke Stringfield! You’re making us all proud!
Additionally, several cadets and students made their way onto The Citadel’s spring 2024 dean’s list. Kudos go out to Eliza Chase, William Bradham, Hunter Dixon, Pierce Finley, Roy Humphreys, Christopher Meetze, and the previously mentioned Gold Star recipients. Joining this proud list shows their hardworking spirit and dedication as they maintain a GPA of 3.20 or higher.
Further north, Southern New Hampshire University has also recognized its diligent undergraduate students for the 2024 summer term. The following motivated learners made it to the dean’s list: Chanel Allen, Tawana Barksdale, Katelyn Davidson, Douglas Wood, Aaliyah Blocker, Lindsey Prouty, Ryan Collamore, and Tiffanie Carter. These high achievers have shown remarkable determination by earning a min of 3.500 to 3.699 GPA for the term, showcasing that hard work really does pay off.
Before wrapping up, let’s chat about our lovely North Augusta weather! The forecast has us experiencing a bit of patchy fog today, with a comfortable high of 72°F. A gentle breeze will accompany us, so it’s a perfect day to enjoy the outdoors! As we move into the evening, expect it to become foggy and damp after midnight, with a low around 53°F. Stay cozy, friends!
It’s incredible how our local talents, whether it’s through military service or academic achievements, continue to shine brightly and make North Augusta proud. Here’s to more great news and honor for our community. Remember to lift each other up and pursue your dreams as Taylor Corbett and our stellar students did. Go, North Augusta!
