News Summary
Augusta is preparing for a new senior living complex at Watson Pointe, alongside exciting developments at Barclay House and Thrive Senior Living. Plans for these communities emphasize enriching lifestyles with engaging activities and supportive services for seniors. Key decisions by the Columbia County Planning Commission will shape the future of senior living in the area, reflecting a commitment to enhancing the lives of older residents.
Exciting Developments on the Horizon for Augusta’s Seniors
Augusta, Georgia, is buzzing with excitement as plans for a new senior living complex at Watson Pointe move forward. Nestled along the vibrant Broad Street, this proposed facility aims to provide a welcoming and engaging community for seniors. The rezoning application currently under consideration includes two specific properties: 1427 and 1437 Broad St., both of which were rezoned to Planned Unit Development (PUD) in May 2023. A positive nod from an architectural firm based in Atlanta is the next step required to get this senior living venture off the ground.
New Management Breathes Life into Barclay House
In the meantime, there are some exciting changes happening at the nearby Barclay House of Augusta. Recently under the new management of QSL Management, this senior living community is set to host a fun-filled Spring Fling event on April 25, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The event promises to be a delightful evening with heavy hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, live entertainment, and a chance to learn more about the amazing amenities available to residents.
The Barclay House has long been known for its commitment to providing quality care, including assisted living and memory care services. Residents enjoy 24-hour care, comprehensive health programs, and lushly landscaped courtyards where they can relax and socialize. To further enrich their lives, a vibrant activity schedule is available, ensuring that there’s always something happening within this lively community.
Thrive Senior Living on the Rise
Adding to Augusta’s senior living options, Thrive Senior Living is proposing the construction of 155 new apartments and cottages off Furys Ferry Road. This development is conveniently located between the Westhampton and Brookfield subdivisions, making it easily accessible for potential residents. Although plans for this senior living facility have been in the air since 2015, the actual site opened as Indigo Hall in 2019. The latest zoning revision occurred in late 2022, which allowed for a maximum of 180 independent living apartments.
Now, DREP is seeking to revise the property’s zoning once again, this time to accommodate 92 units in a three-story independent living building, alongside 63 single-story cottages. These new cottages promise to feature one to three bedrooms and will include two-car garages, providing plenty of space for comfortable living. Interestingly, plans are in place to leave the existing horse barn and pasture on the property unchanged, maintaining a bit of Augusta’s rustic charm.
Upcoming Review by Planning Commission
As excitement grows, the Columbia County Planning Commission is set to review the rezoning request on May 2, 2024. This will be a pivotal moment in determining the future landscape of senior living in Augusta. With various developments emerging, it’s clear that the community is ready to embrace the needs and desires of its older population.
As Augusta continues to evolve and adapt to accommodate its senior citizens, the addition of Watson Pointe, Barclay House, and Thrive Senior Living reflects a community that’s not just looking towards the future, but genuinely caring for its seniors today. With engaging community events, comfortable living spaces, and crucial healthcare services, it looks like Augusta is paving the way for a vibrant and fulfilling senior lifestyle.
