New Lobby Unveiled at SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare in Aiken

New Lobby Opens at SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare in Aiken

Aiken, South Carolina, was buzzing with excitement on December 10 as local animal lovers gathered to celebrate the grand opening of a shiny new lobby for the SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare‘s Veterinary Care Center. This long-awaited addition, which officially opened its doors earlier this year in August, has transformed the experience for pet owners and their furry companions.

The Big Moment

With a few snips of a big pair of scissors, Veterinary Practice Manager Ashley Howell and Board Chairman Russ Richardson officially cut the ribbon, marking the formal unveiling of the new lobby. It was a moment filled with joy, laughter, and a sprinkle of puppy love. The gathering included heartfelt speeches from facility leaders, highlighting the importance of this new space, especially for those waiting to receive care for their pets.

A Warm Welcome Inside

Before the lobby was constructed, clients and their pets had to brave the elements, often waiting outside in a tent before their appointments. Now, thanks to the new 500-square-foot addition, visitors can enjoy a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere while they wait. “This has allowed us to interact with our clients a lot more and build relationships that we just weren’t able to before,” Howell shared as she reflected on the significant upgrade.

Design and Construction

The striking new lobby was designed by McDonald Law from the Hughes, Beattie, O’Neal, Law & Associates architecture firm, with construction handled by Continental Construction Co. of Evans, Georgia. The entire project had a price tag of around $230,000, a sum made possible by generous donations from the community through various fundraisers. As Executive Director Sybil Altman stated, “It allows us to help the community a little bit more and make them comfortable. They can sit in air conditioning and heat, avoiding whatever weather happens.”

Community Efforts Shine

The support from local residents has been nothing short of phenomenal. Richardson took a moment during the ceremony to extend a heartfelt thank you to the community, stating, “This would not have happened without their donations.” Howell added her gratitude for Richardson’s daily involvement in the project, noting how he navigated challenges to keep things moving forward smoothly.

A Busy Year Ahead

As the year comes to a close, the Veterinary Care Center has already made quite an impact, having served more than 15,000 patients and performed over 2,100 spay/neuter surgeries in 2024 alone. It’s all part of the commitment to improving animal welfare and providing high-quality veterinary services to the community.

Get Involved

The SPCA Albrecht Center is always welcoming new supporters and volunteers. To learn more about the center or to get involved, you can call 803-648-6863 or visit their website at letlovelive.org.
