In Columbia, South Carolina, family and friends of 28-year-old Zelig Williams are urgently seeking help in locating the Broadway dancer who has been missing since October 3, 2024. Williams, known for his performances in productions such as “Hamilton” and “MJ The Musical”, disappeared shortly after leaving his home, raising concerns in both his family and the theater community.
Williams was last seen on the evening of October 3. Just minutes after leaving, friends received an automatic emergency alert from his iPhone. When they tried to contact him, there was no response. A day later, authorities discovered his abandoned car in an isolated parking area near Congaree National Park, located approximately 15 miles from downtown Columbia. The vehicle was found undamaged, prompting a concern about his safety.
Friends and family fear for Williams’ mental health, stating that he may have stopped taking necessary medication prior to his disappearance. His cousin, Mieoki Corbett-Jacobs, expressed worries that he might be acting strangely or in a confused state, making it difficult for those trying to help him to recognize him.
At a news conference on October 16, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott outlined ongoing search efforts and emphasized the importance of community involvement. He noted that “nothing, including foul play, has been ruled out” in this case, as investigators are exploring every possible lead.
Sheriff Lott encouraged local churches and community centers to be vigilant for anyone new who might fit Williams’ description, highlighting that he was recently exploring his options for a place to worship. The sheriff stated, “We have used every means of manpower and technology that is available” to aid in the search.
Williams is described as a beacon of light for his family. Corbett-Jacobs revealed that the dancer’s passion for performing was inspired by the tragic loss of his two sisters in a car accident two decades ago. “He is dancing with his sisters in his heart,” she remarked, emphasizing the emotional weight carried by his absence.
His mother, Kathy Williams, shared her heartache during the press event, stating, “I just want Zelig to come home. He’s all I got.” The depth of her sorrow was palpable as she pleaded for assistance in finding her son.
The theater community has also stepped forward in support. Hugh Jackman, who worked with Williams during the tour of “The Greatest Showman”, shared a heartfelt message on social media, urging for his safe return. He posted a photo of Williams, expressing love and prayers from fellow performers.
