Augusta Braces for Hurricane Helene: Miracle Mile Walk Canceled, But Don’t Worry – Activities Continue!

In a turn of events that has left many residents heartbroken, the much-anticipated Miracle Mile Walk scheduled for October 19 has been officially cancelled due to the impending impact of Hurricane Helene on the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA). With safety as a priority, this decision was made to protect participants and volunteers. But avid participants needn’t fret, as there are still plenty of activities lined up to ensure the spirit of the event continues!

Mark Your Calendars for T-Shirt Pickup!

For those who registered for the event, you can still get your hands on your commemorative Miracle Mile T-shirts. T-shirt pickup is scheduled for October 17, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Augusta Common on Reynolds Street. So get ready to show off that support for a great cause even though the walk itself has been put on hold!

Raffle Tickets Still Available!

If you were looking forward to participating in the raffle associated with the Miracle Mile Walk, you’re in luck! Raffle tickets can still be purchased online until October 20 at 11:59 p.m. This is a fabulous way for you to support the Randy W. Cooper, M.D., Center for Breast Health Services. And don’t forget, the raffle drawing and announcement of winners will take place on social media on October 21, so keep your fingers crossed!

Community Solidarity in the Face of Adversity

This year’s event aimed to raise funds not only for the breast health services but also to build a stronger sense of community. In light of Hurricane Helene’s impending arrival, the Piedmont Augusta Foundation expressed their commitment to solidarity with individuals affected by the storm and reaffirmed their dedication to community rebuilding efforts.

Fundraising and Team Building Opportunities!

For the enthusiastic fundraisers out there, even though the walk is canceled, participants can still create or join teams, and fundraising efforts continue. Visit www.themiraclemilewalk.org to find out how you can get involved, whether through fundraising or volunteering. There’s always a way to make a difference!

Cashless Payments Make Life Easier

In an effort to streamline the payment process, the Miracle Mile event will be cashless. Participants can expect to make payments using checks, credit/debit cards, or secure mobile payment options. This upgrade is all about convenience for everyone involved!

Support Beyond the Walk

If you’re looking for additional ways to support breast cancer awareness and survivors, make sure to note the upcoming monthly breast cancer support meeting hosted by the Georgia Cancer Center in Augusta. After a successful gathering on September 23, the next meet-up is set for October 28. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with others and gain valuable support.

Stay Safe, Augusta!

As Hurricane Helene begins to make its presence felt, remember to stay safe and look out for one another. While the walk may have been canceled, the heart of the Miracle Mile events continues with both the raffle and the community spirit. Stay tuned for more updates and join in from the comfort of your home while cheering on your fellow participants!

Although we might not be walking the Miracle Mile this year, we can still make a miraculous impact on our community. Remember, we’re all in this together!
