Augusta, Ga. – New information has come to light regarding the tragic death of an infant that has resulted in three arrests this week. Reports indicate that the baby was found unresponsive at a motel, leading to serious criminal charges against the individuals involved.
arrest warrants released on Tuesday, 3-month-old Josiah Noel Seright died of hypothermia. The little boy was reportedly wrapped in a wet blanket and left in front of an air conditioning unit set at a chilling 61 degrees. The three suspects charged in connection with this unfortunate incident are the mother, September De’Asia Seright, who is only 19 years old; her mother, Diane Lamish Seright, aged 42; and Antonio Bennie Nash, aged 39. All three are from Washington and face charges of felony murder and child cruelty in the second degree. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 2:02 a.m. on a Tuesday morning, dispatching deputies to the Budget Inn located on the 1600 block of Gordon Highway. Upon arrival, officers found the baby unresponsive and immediately took action to provide medical aid. Richmond County Coroner, Mark Bowen, was soon on the scene and confirmed that Josiah was declared dead at 2:30 a.m. while at Wellstar/MCG hospital. An autopsy has been scheduled to ascertain the exact cause of death, but initial reports indicate severe hypothermia as the primary concern.
The details divulged in the arrest warrants paint a troubling picture of the circumstances leading to Josiah’s death. According to the documents, it is alleged that the infant was left in a car safety seat, covered with a wet blanket, with September Seright taking a shower in the nearby bathroom. After her shower, she moved the child to the living area of the motel room, placing him in front of the air conditioner for an “unknown amount of time.” Reports indicate that during this time, while the mother was lying on a couch, the other two individuals were asleep in a bed.
This heart-wrenching case comes at a time when the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) community is grappling with a surge of violent incidents and crime. Since mid-April, there has been a noticeable increase in homicides and other crimes, heightening concerns over safety and well-being among residents. This latest case involving the tragic loss of a young child has shocked many, prompting an outpouring of community support and calls for increased awareness regarding children’s safety.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities gather further details and testimonies regarding the incident. The three suspects are currently held in the Richmond County Jail, awaiting further court proceedings. Community members express their heartfelt sympathies and concerns, mourning the loss of another young life and hoping for justice for Josiah.
As the investigation continues, more updates are expected to emerge regarding this heartbreaking case. Officials urge anyone with information related to the events surrounding Josiah’s death to come forward. The hope is that this tragedy will serve as a reminder to parents and caregivers about the critical importance of ensuring a child’s safety and well-being.
