As the cozy vibes of November settle in, the charming city of Aiken is buzzing with anticipation. Mark your calendars because December 7 is set to shine bright with the return of the beloved Joye to the World! Holiday Concert! This highly anticipated event will kick off at 7:30 p.m. at the USC Aiken Etherredge Center, and it’s going to be a night to remember.
This year’s concert promises a delightful mix of holiday cheer and top-notch jazz performances. The show will feature a fun and festive setlist of beloved holiday standards, crafted in a delightful variety show format. Hosting the evening will be Riley Mulherkar, the talented Artistic Director of Joye in Aiken. Riley, who trained at Juilliard, originally developed this festive concept for Jazz at Lincoln Center. If you loved previous years, get ready for even more magic!
Joining Mulherkar on stage are some truly fabulous artists. One of the highlights is Jumaane Smith, a trumpeter and vocalist with an impressive resume. Smith isn’t just any musician; he has spent the past 18 years touring with the legendary Michael Bublé as a lead trumpeter and vocalist. Imagine hearing him perform alongside other talented musicians! His collaborations include work on five Grammy Award-winning records! He has taken the stage in front of audiences at the White House and even made appearances on popular shows like The Tonight Show and American Idol. This man knows how to entertain!
Making his Aiken debut is the sensational Tyreek McDole, a 24-year-old vocalist who’s making waves in the jazz world. Not only is he the proud winner of the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition but he’s also received the esteemed Lincoln Center Outstanding Vocalist Award. McDole’s passion for jazz shines through in his performances and his impressive degree in jazz performance from The Oberlin Conservatory of Music speaks volumes about his dedication to this timeless art form.
For those who haven’t yet experienced the magic of a Joye in Aiken concert, this is your chance! Joye in Aiken is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing the best of the performing arts to Aiken, and this concert is a prime example of their mission. According to Susie Ferrara, the President of Joye in Aiken, the concert is like a Jazz at Lincoln Center style production right here in our hometown—without having to book a flight! She added, “Riley’s connections in the music world allow us to bring exceptional jazz musicians straight to Aiken.”
Ferrara points out that the annual holiday concerts have developed quite a following due to their unique blend of glitz and glamour. “The show has become a special event that captures that festive, bustling essence of December in New York,” she shared enthusiastically. There’s something magical about gathering together during the holidays, and this concert promises to create cherished memories.
