Historic Home in Aiken Hits the Market Amid Legal Troubles
Aiken’s real estate scene has stirred up quite a buzz with the listing of a charming historic home known as the Constantine House. Located at 3406 Richland Ave. W, this stunning property has made headlines not only for its beauty but also due to the circumstances surrounding its recent sale.
The asking price? A whopping $2.25 million. For those who are fans of historical architecture, the house has a rich history that dates back to its construction in 1917. Designed by Greek architect Augustus Edison Constantine, the home features a sprawling 4,936 square feet filled with unique details and character.
Owner’s Legal Woes Cast Shadow on Sale
Currently, the home is owned by Cody Anderson, who purchased it back in August 2020. Anderson seemed over the moon with his acquisition at the time, likening the house to Wayne Manor, the fictional residence of Batman, and expressing his happiness about having worked hard to secure such a memorable property. However, his ownership has taken a troubled turn.
Anderson now faces serious legal issues, as he has been indicted on federal bank fraud and conspiracy charges. These charges stem from an attempt to probate the will of a woman from the Aiken area who passed away in 2022. As a consequence, a new chief operating officer has been appointed at the funeral home he owns. While these situations unfold, Anderson’s plans about the Constantine House have shifted as well.
A Commitment to Education
In a previous interview, Anderson had mentioned his intention to leave the house to USC Aiken as part of his estate when he passes. The university confirmed this in a statement, saying, “It is not unusual for donors to change their estate through the course of their lifetime.” Even if the house is sold, Anderson’s trust is expected to still provide a substantial estate gift to the university for student scholarships, ensuring his legacy in education lives on.
Aiken’s Weather Update
As if the market news weren’t enough, Aiken has also been feeling the effects of Hurricane Helene. Residents experienced localized heavy thunderstorms and gusty winds on the morning of September 27, 2024, with a forecast predicting a high of 79°F. Rain chances are currently at a robust 100%, so if you’re heading out, be prepared to get a little wet.
Conditions are expected to calm down in the afternoon as partly cloudy skies replace the tumultuous weather. Wind speeds will likely decrease from a staggering 25 to 40 mph during the morning to a more manageable 15 to 25 mph later in the day. Tonight, low temperatures are projected to drop to around 62°F, with gentle southern winds around 10 to 15 mph.
Community Updates
In other news, Aiken’s Smith-Hazel Recreation Center is back in action after undergoing nine months of renovations. The facility celebrated its reopening with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting on September 25. This community hub has long served as a meeting point for many residents, so its reopening is sure to be welcomed with open arms.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars! The Women Today luncheon, featuring the inspiring Dawn Smith Jordan, is scheduled for October 17. It’s a great opportunity for community members to come together, network, and share ideas.
As Aiken continues to navigate its unique blend of history and modern development, the Constantine House sale becomes yet another chapter in the city’s vibrant story. Whether you’re on the lookout for a new home or just keeping up with local happenings, there’s no shortage of excitement in this lovely town!
