North Augusta is buzzing with excitement as the annual 16th Memorial Golf Tournament gears up to take place at the picturesque Mount Vintage Golf Club on October 7. This beloved event, organized by American Legion Post 71, serves not only as a day of fun and friendly competition but also as a significant fundraiser to support local youth and veterans’ initiatives.
Participants can look forward to a well-organized day starting with registration at 10 a.m.. This will be followed by a delicious lunch at 11 a.m., giving everyone a chance to fuel up before the main event kicks off. The shotgun start will take place at noon, when golfers will tee off in a spirited competition.
For anyone wanting to participate, the cost is $100 for non-veterans and $80 for veterans, making it an affordable way to contribute to meaningful causes. If you’re thinking of rallying a team, fees for a group of four non-veterans total $400, while veterans’ teams come in at $320. A mixed team, consisting of two veterans and two non-veterans, will set players back $360.
Ralph Wainwright, a dedicated member of American Legion Post 71, emphasized the importance of this event. “There are a lot of veterans programs that we support with the money that we get,” he said. The funds raised will go toward various programs, such as assistance for veterans in need, educational initiatives like Boys State and Girls State, and special memorial events like Wreaths Across America. Additionally, scholarships for deserving young students will be funded through the proceeds.
As a way to keep the tournament enjoyable and efficient, registration has been capped at 96 players. This ensures smooth play for all participants. Anyone interested in signing up, or who may have questions, can easily reach out to the golf tournament chairman at 803-341-9552.
Checks can be made payable to American Legion Post 71 and mailed to ATTN: Golf Tournament, P.O. Box 6036, North Augusta, SC 29861-6036. Don’t miss out on a fantastic opportunity to not only play a round of golf but also to give back to the community!
The annual golf tournament is more than just a day on the greens; it’s a chance to come together as a community to support our local heroes. From veterans who have served to youth who aspire to lead, the impact of this event resonates far beyond the golf course. It showcases how a fun day with friends can translate into real change in the lives of many.
As we gear up for this wonderful event, remember to mark your calendars for October 7th and gather your friends and family to be part of this meaningful day. Plus, with today’s lovely weather boasting sunshine and a few afternoon clouds, with temperatures around 85°F and gentle winds, it’s the perfect setting for a great day of fun and camaraderie on the golf course.
