Gainesville Soccer Star Mae Dodd Commits to USC Aiken Soccer Program

Gainesville Soccer Star Signs with USC Aiken

Gainesville, December 6, 2024 – In an exciting announcement for the local sports community, P.K. Yonge’s Mae Dodd has signed her National Letter of Intent to play soccer at the University of South Carolina Aiken. This institution competes in the Peach Belt Conference, and Dodd’s commitment is celebrated by her coaches, teammates, and family.

Background on Mae Dodd

Dodd’s soccer journey began at the tender age of four, igniting a passion that has flourished throughout her youth and high school career. At P.K. Yonge, Mae has made a significant impact over her four years, receiving several prestigious accolades. Notably, her honors include the Coaches Award as a freshman, the Versatility Award during her sophomore year, and the Tom Petty Award as a junior. Furthermore, she has been recognized by the Gainesville Sun All-Area team each year of her high school career.

A Family-Like Atmosphere

Reflecting on her time at P.K. Yonge, Dodd expressed her appreciation for her teammates, stating, “This P.K. team has been such a family — they all mean so much to me. We have so many dreams together and it is amazing.” This sentiment encapsulates the spirit and camaraderie displayed by the Blue Wave soccer team.

Coaching Remarks

Rebecca Schackow, the head coach for the Blue Wave, has praised Dodd’s contributions to the team. Schackow describes Mae as a dedicated and determined leader whose toughness and welcoming nature greatly enhance the team’s dynamic. “She sets the example of being all in — because she is,” Schackow remarked. “She encourages anyone to join her in doing what it takes to get better. That is a special trait.”

Upcoming Matches

Currently, the Blue Wave hold a record of 4-2 for the season. They are set to face the Lafayette Hornets, who have a record of 3-2, on Friday at 5 p.m. in Mayo. This match is crucial for the team, as it continues the buildup to their playoff aspirations.

Future Goals

Dodd’s decision to join USC Aiken comes after her visit to the campus during the summer. She instantly fell in love with the environment and is eager to contribute to what she characterizes as a rebuilding team. “There is a great coach there, and I thought that it was somewhere I could make an impact,” she noted. This ambition reflects her commitment to not only improving her own skills but also helping her teammates grow as players.

A Bright Future Ahead

As Dodd prepares for her collegiate athletic journey, her hard work and dedication have set a strong foundation for her future. Both her academic and athletic experiences at P.K. Yonge have equipped her with the tools to excel on and off the field. The Gainesville community eagerly anticipates her next chapter as she strives to make her mark in college soccer.
