Aiken County Calls for Holiday Foster Parents to Care for Shelter Dogs During Thanksgiving Break

Aiken County Residents Wanted for Holiday Fostering!

Hey there, Aiken County! As we dive into the holiday season, it’s not just about delicious turkey and pumpkin pie; it’s also about giving back to our furry friends in need. If you’re looking for a way to spread some cheer during Thanksgiving, we’ve got just the thing for you!

Restricted Shelter Days Ahead

That’s right! The Aiken County Animal Shelter (ACAS) will be closing its doors this Thursday and Friday to let everyone enjoy the Thanksgiving festivities. But here’s where you can step in and make a real difference! The Friends of the Animal Shelter (FOTAS) are reaching out to the wonderful folks in our community. They’re looking for generous hearts to foster shelter dogs for a few days while the shelter is closed.

What’s in it for You?

Now, you might be wondering, “What do I get out of this?” Well, besides some snug tail-wagging cuddles, FOTAS takes care of all the essentials! When you foster a dog, they will provide everything you need, including food, toys, beds, and even bowls! You just bring your love and a comfortable space for the pup to hang out while the shelter gets a little break.

How to Get Involved

So, are you interested? Fostering is super simple! All you need to do is email FOTAS at info@fotasaiken.org with your name, address, and a little info about any pets you currently have. This way, they can match you with a dog that fits just right in your home and lifestyle!

Important Dates to Remember

But don’t wait too long! To foster a furry friend, you need to get pre-approved by Tuesday, November 26. And mark your calendars: the dogs will be available for pickup on Wednesday, November 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Make sure you’re there, ready to welcome a new friend into your home.

Returning Furry Friends

Once the holiday is over and the feasting is done, it’s important to return the dogs to the shelter on Saturday, November 30, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. This gives you a few days of adorable company, and it helps the shelter out immensely during the busy holiday season.

Need More Info?

If you have any questions or need more information, don’t hesitate to reach out! You can shoot an email to FOTAS or give the Aiken County Animal Shelter a call at (803) 642-1537, and select option 3 for assistance.

Wrap it Up with Love

This Thanksgiving, let’s not just fill our own homes with gratitude and love but also open our hearts to our four-legged pals who could use a little cheer and comfort. By fostering a shelter dog, you’re not just providing a temporary home — you’re giving them a chance to feel the warmth of family during the holidays.

So, Aiken County, who’s ready to take the plunge and become a foster parent for a furry friend this Thanksgiving? Let’s make this holiday season one to remember, filled with love, compassion, and a sprinkle of puppy joy!
