Have you heard the buzz? Aiken is buzzing with festive cheer and engaging activities for the whole family this December! From heartwarming reads to sparkling light displays, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
First off, a special shout-out to the kids at Laurel Hill Elementary School who had a fantastic time reading with the author of Thank You, Omu!. What a wonderful way to get kids excited about stories and the magic of reading! Remember, as we dive into the cozy winter season, keep your little ones engaged and entertained with books that capture their imaginations. Summer may seem far away, but having a stack of good books ready is always a smart move!
Do you have a way with words? Or perhaps you simply enjoy a good story? Don’t miss the Art of Words Poets’ Open Mic event tonight! From 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at the Aiken County Public Library, you can practice your performance skills in front of a friendly audience. With renowned co-hosts Tamell “Big” Bailey and Cathy Benedetto, expect an evening filled with inspiration and creativity. Plus, the talented Cathy Bohannan will be featured tonight! Head over for some literary magic!
For our younger bookworms, remember to invite them to the Kids’ Book Club, also at the library, at 4 p.m. today. It’s going to be a cozy gathering where kids ages 5-10 can dive into stories set in wintery landscapes. With snacks and fun activities, it promises to be a delightful time, even for younger siblings who’ll have toys to play with during the discussions!
And let’s not forget about the enchanting Christmas in Hopelands event happening now through December 23rd! This walk-through exhibit is a true wonderland featuring over two miles of lighted pathways and dazzling displays. It’s open from 6 to 9:30 p.m. and free for everyone! Make sure to catch the musical performances at 7 p.m. each night! Tonight, Aiken High School will hit the stage! Just a reminder, to keep things safe and smooth, hop on the shuttle service from Citizens Park starting at 5:45 p.m. No pets allowed on the shuttle, though!
But the holiday spirit doesn’t stop there! Swing by the Willcox for some jazz tunes courtesy of 4 Cats in the Doghouse every Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. or enjoy a night of fabulous entertainment with the Aiken Civic Orchestra performing “It’s the Holiday Season” at 7 p.m. Friday, December 20th, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. It’s sure to be a joyful celebration!
Looking to spread holiday cheer and love? Join the Home for the Holidays Clear the Shelter adoption event on Saturday, December 21st from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Aiken County Animal Shelter. All adoption fees will be waived, and Santa will be there for some adorable pet pics! What better way to bring some joy into your home this season?
As we approach the end of the month, big events keep rolling in. Enjoy Let’s Go Bingo every Monday evening or the exciting Noon Years Eve Party for kids at the library on December 31st. With festive snacks, dancing, and fun activities, it’s the perfect way for little ones to ring in the New Year!
This December is packed with delightful events and activities that bring the community together. Whether it’s reading, music, or festive lights, Aiken shines bright with holiday spirit and warmth!
