Exciting Partnership Boosts Women-Owned Small Business in Aiken’s Technology Sector

Exciting News for Women-Owned Small Business in Aiken!

In the heart of Aiken, a small but mighty business is stepping into the spotlight, thanks to a fantastic opportunity offered by the U.S. Department of Energy! InfoTech NorthStar, a woman-owned technology solutions company, has recently joined the coveted Mentor-Protégé Program through the Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) organization. This partnership aims to empower small businesses while ensuring they thrive in federal contracting.

Empowering Women in Business

The announcement was made during the U.S. Department of Energy Mentor-Protégé Forum, which recently took place in sunny Albuquerque, New Mexico. At the event, leaders from InfoTech NorthStar showcased their skills and aspirations, representing the brand with pride. Spotting a glimpse of their leadership trio — Nolan Wright, vice president of operational technology and quality assurance; Silvina Wright, president and owner; and Dwight Brayton, vice president of information technology — filled attendees with enthusiasm.

This program is designed specifically to help small businesses like InfoTech NorthStar navigate the often-complicated world of federal contracts. The Savannah River Mission Completion has supported this initiative since its inception in 2022, all while managing the daunting task of treating and disposing of radioactive waste at the Savannah River Site (SRS).

The Journey to Growth

As a disadvantaged woman-owned small business, InfoTech NorthStar is taking significant strides in providing support for operational and information technology, along with quality assurance services. Their expertise revolves around developing safety-significant systems and software that greatly benefits the Department of Energy complex and its many contractors.

Mirwaise Aurah, SRMC’s Chief Information Officer, has been hands-on with InfoTech NorthStar. He expresses great enthusiasm about this collaboration, stating, “InfoTech NorthStar is helping us by supporting our facilities with the development of IT-related applications and technologies. And we are supporting them as the company scales from a startup phase to growing their clients significantly. We look forward to the valuable support ITNS will continue to bring to the liquid waste cleanup mission.”

Solid Partnerships for a Cleaner Future

But InfoTech NorthStar isn’t alone in this journey! Alongside them, SRMC is also mentoring three other small businesses, including the successful BlueStar Rental and Sales, which has already completed the mentoring program. What an accomplishment!

When it comes to the SRMC, they aren’t just about introduction and supervision. Their parent company, BWX Technologies Inc., along with partners Amentum and Fluor, are committed to providing robust resources to ensure the success of their protégé firms. Their combined efforts encompass strong corporate governance and streamlined execution of critical environmental management operations, especially at the Savannah River Site.

Looking Toward the Future

This partnership not only highlights the importance of empowering women-owned businesses but also sets a precedent for creating a stronger future in the technology sectors serving the federal government. The Savannah River Mission Completion’s focus on mentoring and supporting growth within the community speaks volumes about the commitment to enhancing business capabilities across the board.

As a community, we can cheer on InfoTech NorthStar and their fellow protégé businesses as they embark on this exciting new chapter. With the right support and mentoring, the sky’s the limit for these small businesses. Here’s to innovation, collaboration, and a brighter future for women entrepreneurs in Aiken!
