Exciting New Program Launched in Augusta to Combat Food Insecurity

Augusta is buzzing with good news! The community recently welcomed an incredible initiative, the Ride United Last Mile Delivery program. This exciting new venture, brought to life by a fantastic partnership between local organizations, aims to tackle food insecurity head-on by delivering essential groceries directly to the doorsteps of those who need them most.

How it Works

So, what exactly is this new program all about? Essentially, the Ride United Last Mile Delivery program is designed to bridge the gap in food distribution, especially for individuals and families who may struggle to access food resources. This includes anyone from the elderly, to the disabled, or those who simply don’t have reliable transportation. We all know that not everyone can hop into a car and go grocery shopping, and this program is here to help!

The program gets its power through the united efforts of the United Way of the CSRA, Golden Harvest Food Bank, and DoorDash. Together, they’re crafting a caring solution that ensures that no one in our community goes without vital food supplies.

What the Leaders are Saying

In her own words, Brittany Burnett, the President and CEO of United Way of the CSRA, highlighted the significance of this initiative: “Access to food is a huge burden on individuals and families in our community.” She believes that collaborating with local organizations is essential in creating innovative solutions to fight food insecurity. ‘We are committed to ensuring that everyone has the ability to receive the food they need,’ she added.

It’s not just about immediate solutions, though! Alongside delivering food, the program also aims to identify long-term needs within our community. The goal here is not just to provide a quick fix, but to establish a sustainable model that continues to support ongoing food access.

How It Works Step-by-Step

Here’s the deal: The program operates from a 10-mile radius surrounding its pantry storefront, based at The First Stop Center near United Way of the CSRA’s office on Broad Street. Initially, they’ll be delivering food items to those who need help most, thanks to the invaluable teamwork from the 211 Network that will help identify individuals eligible for the delivery service.

Just picture this—if you or someone you know is in need of food assistance, you can simply call 211 for a little help from this remarkable program. The added convenience? DoorDash will handle all the logistics, ensuring that the food makes it from the pantry straight to your door. It’s good food delivered right when you need it, how great is that!

A Mission to Fight Hunger

Amy Breitmann, the President and CEO of Golden Harvest Food Bank, shared her enthusiasm: “The Ride United Last Mile Delivery program allows us to reach those who might otherwise be unable to access food support due to barriers like limited mobility or lack of transportation.” Together, they are working toward a vision of a hunger-free community. Isn’t that something we can all get behind?

As of now, the program has been thoroughly tested and is fully operational, ready to serve. The staff involved are eager to reach out and help our neighbors in need. So, if someone you know could benefit from this program, feel free to share the important contact information mentioned earlier—just call 211!

Community Impact

The launch of the Ride United Last Mile Delivery program marks a significant step toward addressing food insecurity in Augusta. It’s critical for everyone to feel empowered and supported within their community. And with organizations collaborating so closely, it seems there’s a bright future ahead for fighting hunger together.

Let’s not forget—we’re all part of this community, and together, we have the strength to make a change. Here’s to hoping many will take advantage of this compassionate program, ensuring that no one goes hungry in Augusta!
