Aiken Hosts a Range of Exciting Activities This Week

Aiken, SC is buzzing with energy as the community gears up for a variety of events and activities over the next week. From sports leagues to creative classes, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Registration Open for Lacrosse League

The Aiken County Lacrosse League is currently accepting registrations for boys and girls aged 7 to 15. This is a great opportunity for young athletes to engage in team sports and learn valuable skills. The cost is $30 per child, and although boys and girls will typically play on separate teams, a co-ed league may form if necessary. Games and practices are scheduled to begin in early September at Boyd Pond Park, located at 340 Boyd Pond Road. Interested parents should contact Jeff Mayberry at 803-593-4698 for further details.

Sewing Guild Meeting

On Monday, August 12, the American Sewing Guild, also known as the Material Girls, will hold a meeting at 10 a.m. in the community room of St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church. The focus will be on creating Molas, an art form practiced by the Kuna natives of Panama. Anyone interested in sewing is welcome to join. Bingo Night

Bingo lovers can enjoy a fun evening at Aiken Senior Life Services from 6 to 8 p.m. on Mondays. Entry is $5, and game cards are priced between $1 and $25. This is a wonderful chance to relax, socialize, and win some prizes!

Tween and Teen Painting Event

On Tuesday, August 13, the Aiken County Public Library is hosting a Tween and Teen Painting Event from 6-7:30 p.m.. This event will provide artistic opportunities along with snacks for participants. Registration is encouraged by calling 803-642-2020 ext. 1121.

Summer Lecture Series

The Friends of the Aiken County Historical Museum will kick off its Summer Lecture Series on the same day at 6 p.m.. This week’s lecture is titled “Dirt Roads and Other Peculiarities of Driving in Aiken” and will be presented by Sgt. Stephanie Barbee from the Aiken Department of Public Safety. Tickets are priced at $30 and include a meal. Interested attendees can purchase tickets through the museum’s website.

Meet the Surgeons

A unique opportunity awaits residents on Wednesday, August 14, as they can meet the surgeons using the da Vinci surgical robot at an event taking place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Reserve Club at Woodside. This technology promises reduced recovery times and less pain during recovery. Another session will follow on Thursday, August 15, at the Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

Wiggles Fan Party

For families, a Wiggles Fan Party is set for 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday at the Aiken County Public Library. The event invites kids aged 5 and under to play games and enjoy music inspired by the beloved children’s group.

Artistic Classes Available

Art enthusiasts can sign up for a variety of classes this week. A class on hand-built pottery focusing on creating a Wonky Teapot is scheduled for Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Indigo Bleu: A Creative Collective, costing $65. Then, on Friday, a Beginning Jewelry Making Class where participants will craft earrings and bracelets will be held from 1-4 p.m., also for $65.

Jazz Nights and More

Thursdays will continue to feature live music in Aiken. 4 Cats in the Doghouse will play jazz from 7-9 p.m. at The Willcox. This lively evening is sure to enhance your week with good tunes and great company.

As summer progresses, the community is invited to join in various activities like a Back to School Youth Pickleball Scramble Tournament on August 24, and a Wiggles Fan Party for younger children on the same day.
