Aiken Hosts Exciting Events This Week
Aiken, SC – Residents of Aiken are in for a treat this week as the city buzzes with various events catering to all ages and interests. From health events to artistic gatherings, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Health and Technology Event
On Wednesday, August 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Reserve Club at Woodside, residents can meet the surgeons who use the innovative da Vinci surgical robot. This robot enables doctors to perform minimally invasive procedures, reducing blood loss and recovery time. This drop-in event does not require registration, allowing attendees to learn more about this advanced technology.
Additionally, a follow-up meet-and-greet will take place the next day, Thursday, August 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the main lobby of Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Upcoming Youth Sports Tournament
A thrilling event for young athletes is on the horizon with the Back 2 School Youth Pickleball Scramble Tournament. Set to be held on Saturday, August 24, starting at noon at the Gregg Park Civic Center, this tournament invites children aged 10-18 to participate. No partner is necessary to compete. Fun Activities for the Little Ones
On the same day as the health event, the Aiken County Public Library will host a Wiggles Fan Party for children ages 5 and younger. Scheduled from 11 a.m. to noon, this engaging event will include games, songs, and fun activities inspired by the beloved children’s group, the Wiggles.
Creative and Cultural Gatherings
The Aiken Poets group will gather for a meeting on Thursday, August 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at AnShu Cafe. Anyone interested in poetry is welcome, and newcomers will find a friendly environment ready to embrace them.
Later that evening, from 5:45 to 7:45 p.m., the Art of Words Poets’ Open Mic will take place at the Aiken County Public Library, featuring the theme “Journey”. This event is perfect for adults and teens to showcase their talents and connect with other creatives.
Community Involvement and Awareness
The community also has an opportunity to gather for a serious cause. On Monday, August 19, the Aiken Women in Black and Moms Demand Action will hold a Vigil for Peace and Nonviolence from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the entrance to Aiken Estates. This is an invitation to all, regardless of gender or age, to join hands in seeking peace and condemning violence.
Leisure and Recreation
For those interested in hobbies, a free bridge lesson will occur at 11:30 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, followed by the ACBL Sectional Bridge Game at 1 p.m.. This takes place at the Lessie B. Price Aiken Senior and Youth Center and is a great time for both newcomers and seasoned players alike.
