In a harrowing turn of events in Aiken, South Carolina, authorities are investigating an alarming domestic incident where a daughter allegedly threw bleach in her mother’s eyes while two young children were present. The unsettling occurrence took place on November 3, around 1:08 p.m., prompting Aiken Public Safety Officers to rush to the scene at the 1300 block of Triple Tree Lane.
Upon arrival, officers were greeted by an alarming sight. The victim, described as sitting upright in a chair in the driveway with the help of a nearby neighbor, was obviously in distress. Her eyes were swollen shut, and the air was thick with a potent scent of bleach. Officers quickly noticed that the victim’s clothes were stained with the harsh chemical. Incredibly, she managed to explain to the officers that her daughter had assaulted her.
The center of this dramatic scene was Kissante Sanders, a 25-year-old woman. As officers approached her, they noted she too had bleach stains on her clothing. In an attempt to clarify the bizarre affair, Sanders claimed that she had been washing dishes when an argument broke out. According to her, her mother tried to stop her from using bleach in the dishwater, leading to a physical altercation.
Sanders asserted that she acted in self-defense during the fight, insisting that she merely struck back at her mother. However, she failed to provide any plausible explanation for her mother’s severely swollen eyes, resorting to repeating her self-defense narrative. As officers ventured into the apartment, the overwhelming stench of bleach became more pronounced, raising further concerns about the safety of the environment.
While investigating the scene, officers discovered two juveniles present in the living room, prompting an immediate removal from what was described as a hazardous location. The officers wisely called for emergency medical services (EMS) to assess the health of the mother and the children. Both minors were reportedly found in clothes that smelled of bleach, necessitating precautionary care as they awaited further attention.
After detaining Sanders, officers returned to the victim for her account of events. The mother recounted a very different narrative, claiming she was in her room when she received a call from her daughter. Upon exiting her room, she alleged that Sanders launched a brutal attack, pouring bleach on her and pushing her to the floor. Even more shocking was her report of being repeatedly punched and having her head slammed against the floor.
Given the grave circumstances, authorities surmised that the situation posed an unreasonable risk of harm to the juveniles involved. Consequently, Sanders was charged with two counts of unlawful conduct toward a child. Additionally, due to the potential for severe bodily injury stemming from the bleach incident, she faces serious charges, including assault and battery in the first degree.
This unsettling incident has shaken the local community, highlighting the unsettling realities of domestic disputes and their potential for escalating into dangerous situations. As investigations continue, many are left wondering about the well-being of the family involved and the broader implications for domestic violence awareness.
