North Augusta's District 4 School Board Sees Unique Write-in Candidate as Election Approaches

North Augusta’s District 4 School Board Race Takes an Interesting Turn

North Augusta is buzzing with excitement as the community gears up for the upcoming election on November 5. What’s making this particular election interesting is that the District 4 seat on the Aiken County Board of Education has *no candidates* filed for it—unless you count one determined write-in hopeful, Evelyn Thonea “Tee” Grant.

Who is Evelyn Thonea “Tee” Grant?

Tee Grant, a 60-year-old North Augusta resident, is not new to community involvement. With a rich background in education and public service, she’s ready to bring her experience to the table. With a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from South Carolina State University and a master’s degree in Education from American Intercontinental University, she’s got the *academic chops* to complement her practical experience.

Having spent over 35 years as an analyst at the Savannah River Site, Tee knows how to tackle complex issues and think critically. She has also dedicated her time to various local initiatives, including serving on the School Improvement Council for seven years—first at Hammond Hill Elementary School and then at Paul Knox Middle School. Currently, she serves on the Area 2 School Advisory Board for Aiken County Public Schools.

Why Run for School Board?

So, why is Tee stepping into the realm of local politics? “I cannot sit idle and not attempt to make a change,” she passionately expressed. Tee firmly believes that the path to a better education lies in understanding both the challenges students face and the successes that can be leveraged. She aims to bring her years of public service to the School Board, advocating for better educational experiences for students, support for teachers, and enhanced community involvement.

Her love for education doesn’t stop at her own son, who is currently in the Aiken County Public School District. Tee is actively involved in every aspect of his educational journey, from providing supplies to assisting with school activities. “My parents taught my siblings and me the value of a quality education,” she shared, driving home her message of dedication to student success.

Her Priorities for the Role

If elected, Tee has laid out a clear agenda. She wants to create a safe environment for all students, teachers, and staff members. This involves advocating for policies that ensure safety in schools—something every parent can appreciate.

Another focus for her is enhancing and promoting career pathways for students. “It’s essential we prepare our students for success in their future careers,” she asserted. Understanding the changing landscape of job markets, Tee is committed to ensuring students have the opportunities they need to succeed.

Then there’s her strong belief in supporting teachers. “Teachers are valuable resources,” she said. She plans to advocate for effective recruitment and retention strategies to ensure that educators feel supported in their work.

Facing Challenges Head-On

But it’s not all sunshine and roses. Every district faces challenges, and Tee is no stranger to the realities of her community. From increasing teachers’ salaries to addressing the shortage of qualified staff members—especially bus drivers—she recognizes the pressing issues that need addressing.

Tee aims to strengthen school-parent relationships and boost parental involvement. “I want to see programs for tutoring and mentoring our students after school hours,” she emphasized. To accomplish these goals, she plans to advocate for community resources that can provide guidance for parents about available support networks.

Get Ready North Augusta!

As election day approaches, North Augusta residents have a unique opportunity. With no one else vying for the District 4 seat, the community can rally behind Tee Grant’s candidacy. Her vision for a strong, supportive educational framework reflects a commitment to the future of local children.

No matter the weather today—mild and sunny as the clouds begin to roll in—an exciting political scenery is unfolding in North Augusta. Let’s keep an eye on this race and see how Tee’s campaign shapes up as she pursues the chance to make an impact!
