Dense Fog and Flood Warnings for South Carolina: Stay Alert!

Good morning, folks! If you’re waking up in South Carolina today, it’s best to be cautious as you head out. A dense fog advisory is in effect until 7 AM EST this morning, and visibility is expected to drop below one mile in many areas, particularly in the counties of Aiken, Bamberg, Barnwell, and parts of Orangeburg. Drive safe and make sure to have your headlights on!

Morning Drive May Be Tricky!

As you take to the roads, keep in mind the visibility challenges. If you find yourself navigating through thick fog, remember to slow down and leave plenty of space between you and the car in front of you. Sudden stops might be necessary, and staying alert is crucial. Just because the world outside looks like a scene from a cozy movie doesn’t mean it’s safe to speed! Safe driving, everyone!

What’s Next? Windy Conditions Ahead!

But wait—there’s more! Later tonight, particularly from midnight to 7 AM Wednesday, there’s a lake wind advisory that kicks in across lakes such as Marion, Murray, Thurmond, and Wateree. Expect northeast winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching up to 30 mph. ⛵ If you’re planning a boating adventure, be cautious—rough waves and strong winds could make conditions hazardous, especially for small crafts! Plan accordingly!

Current Flooding Situation

And if you think the weather couldn’t get any more interesting, there’s ongoing concern about flooding across central South Carolina. A flood warning remains in effect until 7 PM Thursday evening. Areas such as Bamberg and Orangeburg counties are feeling the effects of excessive rainfall that has caused small streams to overflow. Roads are inundated, and many remain closed due to flooding.

The local emergency management officials have reported ongoing flooding, particularly between Branchville and Canadys, and regions along the Edisto River and its tributaries are also struggling. So, if you’re in these areas, please do not attempt to cross flooded roadways—turn around, don’t drown! Your safety is paramount.

Weather Outlook: A Mixed Bag

Looking ahead, while we are dealing with cool and dry conditions today and Wednesday, don’t forget that weather can be unpredictable. A front is expected to move through, leading to rain and a chill by Thursday. The sun, however, is set to make an appearance as we approach the weekend, with highs potentially reaching around 68°F on Friday and even warming up to 71°F by Sunday.

Stay Informed!

As you plan your week, keep an eye on the weather updates and advisories. The fluctuating conditions might require some adjustments to your plans. Whether driving through dense fog or preparing for a windy day on the lake, being informed is your best defense against the elements!

Stay safe out there, South Carolina! We hope you enjoy our fabulous fall weather after this wet spell.
