The Community Buzz in Aiken: Events and Activities You Won’t Want to Miss!

Good morning, Aiken! As we start today, the weather is a bit moody, with cloudy skies hanging around in the morning. But don’t worry, the clouds will gradually clear up, giving way to a partly cloudy afternoon, and we might even see a few sprinkles throughout the day. The temperature is expected to rise to a pleasant 74°F with some light winds blowing from the northeast at about 10 to 15 mph. As the night settles in, temperatures will drop to a cool 57°F, so you might want to grab a light jacket if you’re heading out.

Sunday Highlights: Open House and Symphony Concert

Mark your calendars for an exciting event happening today! The Chalk Mine golf course invites everyone to its open house event today, running every Sunday through December 31st. You can enjoy a round of golf for just $30 per nine holes! Tee times are available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Also today, the Aiken Symphony Orchestra is set to perform a concert titled The Three B’s starting at 3 p.m. at the USC Aiken Etherredge Center. Tickets are priced between $45 and $60, depending on where you choose to sit. It promises to be a delightful musical experience as part of their MasterWorks series. Community Services and Gatherings

If you’re looking for something different, the Quakers, also known as the Religious Society of Friends, will hold a virtual service today. Coming up on Monday, November 4th, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., a Women Veterans VA Claims Clinic will take place at the Aiken County Government Center. If you need more information, feel free to email ashley.lee3@va.gov.

In a call for peace and unity, Aiken Women In Black along with Moms Demand Action will be hosting a Vigil for Peace and Nonviolence on Monday from 4 to 5 p.m. on Whiskey Road across from The Fresh Market. Join them in seeking an end to wars and gun violence across our communities. Everyone is invited — whether you bring your family, friends, or just yourself! Feel free to bring a chair if standing for long is a challenge.

Ongoing and Upcoming Events

Musical enthusiasts should check out the Savannah River Stringband for a music jam set for the first and third Mondays at 6:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church. And for those who like some bingo fun, Let’s Go Bingo occurs every Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Aiken Senior Life Services. A $5 cover charge is includes game cards that cost anywhere from $1 to $25.

If you’re eager to learn about Medicare, the City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism will host a 4L: Living, Loving, Lifelong Learning Series lecture this Tuesday at 11 a.m. The topic will cover Medicare 101, making it easier to navigate complex health benefits. Registration is required, so don’t forget your $5.

Getting Involved and Participating

On a community-building note, various support groups are happening throughout the week, including Celebrate Recovery on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at Cedar Creek Church. Additionally, the Aiken Toastmasters Club meets every first and third Thursday from 6:45 to 8 p.m., helping folks improve their public speaking and leadership skills.

Lastly, if you enjoy arts and crafts, don’t miss the Coloring for Grownups sessions happening at the Aiken County Public Library. Grab your colored pencils this Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and let your creativity flow!
