Boil Water Advisory Issued for Aiken Residents Amid Water Line Break

Boil Water Advisory for Aiken Residents

If you live in Aiken, you might want to pay close attention to the recent news regarding water safety in your area. On September 11, the city announced a boil water advisory that affects approximately 100 customers residing on Plantation Drive and Spring Valley Court in the Gem Lakes subdivision located on Aiken’s Southside. This advisory is a response to a main water line break near the intersection of Huckleberry and Spring Valley drives.

Why the Advisory?

The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services mandates this type of advisory whenever there is a confirmed loss of water pressure within a provider’s system. This loss of pressure raises the risk of bacterial contamination, which is why they’re advising residents to boil their water for at least one minute before consumption. It’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your health and safety!

What Should You Do?

So, what exactly should you do if you live in the affected areas? It’s pretty straightforward. Just bring your water to a rolling boil and keep it there for about a minute before drinking, cooking, or even brushing your teeth. This small precaution can help protect you from any potential health risks while the city conducts its due diligence to ensure water safety.

City’s Response

The City of Aiken emphasizes the importance of this advisory to ensure public safety. They are actively working to resolve any issues with the water supply and will conduct testing to ascertain whether there is any bacterial contamination in the system. As soon as the tests come back negative, the advisory will be lifted.

If you have any questions or concerns, you’re welcome to reach out to the City of Aiken Engineering & Utilities Department at 803-642-7617 for more information.

Development Updates in Aiken

Aiken Planning Commission recently voted 6-0 on September 10 to recommend that the Aiken City Council approve two utility service requests for future projects at the Whiskey-Chukker Creek road intersection. This could pave the way for new housing and commercial projects that could benefit the community.

What’s On the Horizon?

So, what exactly do these developments entail? Speculation suggests there could be plans for a new gas station and possibly even a 55-plus housing community in the area. The anticipation is buzzing as residents ponder how these developments will enhance the local neighborhood.

Traffic and Infrastructure Updates

Union Street Bridge in downtown Aiken. City Manager Stuart Bedenbaugh reported that the bridge, which once facilitated train traffic, will not reopen. Talks with South Carolina Transportation Secretary Justin Powell revealed that local officials are considering various options for the future of the space.

Wall Protection on Whiskey Road

Whiskey Road that has been struck multiple times over the years. There’s an ongoing dialogue between city officials and the state to address this issue and explore potential solutions to safeguard both the road and the historic estate known as Rond Point.

Whether it’s about safe drinking water or urban development, Aiken residents have a lot to look forward to in the days ahead. Remember to stay informed and proactive, and don’t hesitate to reach out for additional information. Your community is here to help!
