Investigation Launched as Woman’s Body Found Behind Vacant Home in Augusta

In a shocking incident, the body of a woman was discovered in the backyard of an unoccupied home in Augusta on Monday morning. Identified as Chandra Buffington, a homeless woman of age 47, she was announced dead on July 09, 2024, at 9:15 a.m. at 3018 Abelia Drive, Augusta. However, the authorities have speculated that she might’ve been deceased for at least a day.

Details of the Discovery

While the authorities found no immediate indications of foul play, the Coroner has stated that the situation remains suspicious, pending further investigation, including an autopsy. Buffington was found in the backyard of a property that was currently undergoing renovation.

Background of the Victim

Buffington had been known to the local enforcement agencies, with a history of arrests linked to drug-related offenses, including meth, cocaine, and more. It was reported that she was arrested last on June 13th in Edgefield County, South Carolina, for meth distribution.

After spending four days in custody, she made bail and was transferred to Saluda County, South Carolina, on pending charges of forgery. Buffington remained in detention for about a week before being released on June 25. The address listed during her last arrest was of Willis Foreman Road in Hephzibah.

Situation Considered Suspicious

Despite the lack of apparent signs of foul play, the Coroner’s office maintains that Buffington’s death is suspicious and further investigations, including an autopsy, will provide clarity on the matter. Anyone with additional information regarding Buffington, or with a more recent photo, has been urged to contact the local authorities.
