While it has been about a month since the storm, we still have several households that are yet to regain their internet connectivity, but fret not! There’s progress being made in all corners.
The Latest on Wi-Fi Restoration Efforts
WOW! has been diligent in their restoration efforts and reported that approximately 70% of their customers in Augusta are back online. That’s fantastic news! Dozens of WOW! crew members are tirelessly working around the clock to reconnect every last customer. As they progress through neighborhoods, WOW! customers are kept in the loop through email and text notifications, complete with estimated restoration dates as new info becomes available. How great is that?
For those affected by the loss of service, WOW! has already adjusted bills to reflect the duration of the outage, so you won’t need to stress about extra charges for services you couldn’t use. And if your home suffered significant damage, WOW! allows customers to pause their service and billing for an extended period, with no late fees and replacement of damaged equipment at no additional cost!
Comcast Ramping Up Recovery
Meanwhile, Comcast, which runs Xfinity, has also jumped into action. They expect full network restoration for much of Augusta by Thursday, October 24. With around 300 crews working diligently over the past few weeks, the lights are definitely starting to flicker back on across town. Just another reminder of the resilience of our community!
AT&T and Verizon Play Their Parts
AT&T is also in good spirits as they reported last week that 97% of their wireline customers’ services have been restored. The remaining challenges in Augusta have mainly stemmed from debris, ongoing power outages, and some damage to crucial infrastructure. So, even though we still have some road to travel, it seems that companies are making great headway!
Verizon has announced that all cell sites in Georgia are now back in service. Their system performance engineers are currently focused on optimizing and restoring the network to pre-storm performance levels. With all these providers working hard, it feels like our connectivity will be fully back in no time!
