Maria’s daughter’s home was destroyed during the storm, so now they’re trying to get her utilities transferred to a new apartment. “It’s just really frustrating,” Maria shared, looking understandably exhausted. “My daughter is in nursing school, and with all these extra costs, things feel overwhelming right now. We are just trying to connect the hot water in their new place they’re renting, but everything feels so high.”

In light of the challenges many residents are facing, Byne reassured the public that the utility department is committed to making the transition as smooth as possible. Furthermore, Byne indicated that a system-wide credit is in the plans for those affected by the prolonged water shut-off. However, they advised residents that it could take some time before these credits appear in their billing systems. “We need to ensure that we process all notifications properly, as we want to avoid any confusion,” he explained, safe in the knowledge that communication will be key to the community’s recovery.
