Hey there, Augusta residents! Grab your bike helmets and skateboards because we’ve gotten some exciting news from the Augusta Commission! In its recent meeting, they made a splash by selecting a new head for Augusta Recreation and Parks – and it’s none other than Tameka Dillard Williams! 🎉
On Tuesday, the Commission cast a unanimous vote of 9-0 to bring Williams aboard, with a couple of commissioners missing in action for this monumental decision. Commissioner Sean Frantom, who really believes in Williams’ abilities, was the one who put her forward as the top choice out of a pool of at least three finalists.
The names of the other candidates have been a bit of a question mark – but don’t worry, they will soon be revealed as local governments, like ours here in Augusta, are required by state law to share this information. So stick around for that drama!
So, who exactly is this Tameka Dillard Williams? Well, she comes to us from the vibrant Columbia, S.C. area, where she has a comprehensive background in Recreation. Most recently, she was the deputy director for the Richland County Recreation Commission for six years. Williams knows a thing or two about parks and recreation having even held the interim executive director title for around 20 months before moving on to her new role here in Augusta.
The past 몇 년 have been thrilling for her since she operated under the Richland commission, which is responsible for loads of parks and facilities. They also run a variety of programs like after-school activities, summer camps, and even athletics for the community! Talk about a busy schedule!
One of the coolest things about her is that she has solid credentials, including being a certified parks and recreation professional as well as a certified youth sports administrator. Sounds like Augustans are in good hands with Williams at the helm!
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice, with a minor in art. That means not only does she have the chops for running parks, but she also appreciates the arts! 🎨
While we welcome Tameka, let’s not forget the previous situation with the former director, Maurice McDowell, who had to resign back in February. Since then, Deputy Administrator Charles Jackson has been holding down the fort, but now we’re ready for fresh faces and new ideas!
With Williams now officially on board, residents of Augusta can expect some positive changes in the Recreation and Parks Department! She has a wealth of experience and fresh ideas, and we’re all excited to see how she plans to improve community parks and recreational offerings.
So let’s keep our eyes peeled and support Tameka as she transitions into her new role and sets out to enhance our beloved Augusta parks. Change is on the horizon, and it looks bright!
