With the start of the academic year just around the corner, numerous community groups and organizations in the Augusta area are arranging school supply drives and giveaways to support local families. According to a Morning Consult survey, approximately two-thirds of families are unable to afford back-to-school shopping implying the significance of such initiatives.
The 9th annual Back-to-School Book Bag Drive is all set to take place from 9 a.m. to noon on July 13 at Aiken Technical College. The event aims at distributing over 1,500 backpacks along with necessary school supplies to K-12 students across the Augusta area.
Hawk Law Group is hosting their Book Bag Bash at the Bell Auditorium from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 13. The event will offer school supplies to 1,000 K-12 students. The occasion will also feature costumed characters, inflatables, and other entertaining activities.
Several churches are also taking part in easing parents’ burden of school shopping. Cornerstone Apostolic’s Back-to-School Bash on July 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. will offer book bags, school supplies, and even eye exams. Meanwhile, Cumberland AME’s Back-to-School Bash and Faith Seed Harvest’s Back-to-School Bash on the same day will furnish school supplies, food, music, and a kids activity zone.
The Oasis Church has planned a Backpack Giveaway on July 21 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m, where kids must be present to receive backpacks and supplies. RISE Augusta’s Back-to-School Bash on July 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. will feature games, food, drinks, and face painting, alongside backpacks filled with school supplies, vision, and blood pressure screening, and a book fair.
Additional events such as Impact Church’s “Back 2 School Bash!” and The Path Worship Center’s Back-to-School Party will offer free haircuts alongside school supplies and backpacks. Lastly, the YMCA Back-to-School Drive on July 28 from 5 p.m. will feature food, games, bouncing beans, and school supplies.
These charitable initiatives underscore the community’s commitment to ensure a fruitful and well-prepared start to the new academic year for all students. It’s worth remembering that these drives operate on a first-come, first-serve basis, so early attendance is highly encouraged. The events not only provide much-needed materials but also foster a sense of community spirit and solidarity.
