As we march full steam ahead into summer, the city of Augusta finds itself brimming with a fantastic array of events that promise to keep our community engaged and entertained. The calendar of events for July and August is filled with diverse happenings, ranging from the Columbia County Board of Education hearings on millage rates to the much-anticipated Tomato Pie Festival.
The Columbia County Board of Education has scheduled three millage rate hearings in July. The first hearing is set to take place at 8 am on July 9th, followed by the second hearing at 5:30 pm on July 9th and the final hearing on July 23rd at 6 pm. All the meetings will be at the Board of Education Office on Hereford Farm Road.
The ongoing Augusta Market on the River is sure to appeal to those who love to shop and taste local produce. The market started in March and will run through November 16th. Located at Eighth and Reynolds streets, it offers a variety of vendors selling everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to handmade crafts and jewelry.
Among all the events, the shining star is the Tomato Pie Festival. Taking place on July 13th from 10 am to 2 pm, this event is held at the charming Boondock Farms in Jacksonville, S.C., and it guarantees a day filled with delicious tomato pies, fresh produce, local vendors, live music, and food trucks.
Apart from festivals, the calendar is packed with numerous government meetings and sessions for those interested in local politics. Notable ones include the Richmond County Board of Elections monthly meeting, Columbia County Development and Planning Services committees meeting, Augusta Commission’s legal meeting and committee meetings, and the Columbia County Library Board meeting, among others.
Later in the year, the Augusta community can look forward to a range of incredible sporting and cultural events. For sports enthusiasts, the Ironman 70.3 Augusta is a must-see on September 29th, while music lovers won’t want to miss live performances such as Shrek the Musical in October and “Another Fork in The Road” tour by the timeless rock band KANSAS in November.
In the fall, the city will host a variety of events, including FireK 2024, an illustrious annual event taking place on October 5th at Evans Towne Center Park. Additionally, the Fall Wine Festival in downtown Augusta will cater to wine lovers, providing food trucks, vendors, mobile bars, cocktail classes, and live entertainment. To top it off, in October, Zoso, the ultimate Led Zeppelin tribute band, will transport audiences back in time with a performance at Miller Theatre.
The calendar also features a few community outreach activities. The 39th-annual SEED STEM Festival will be happening at USC Aiken in late October, offering the public a free chance to engage with scientific and technological advancements. And for anime lovers, the Augusta Anime-Fall Fest is the perfect place to meet, interact, and explore a world of art and fantasy on November 2nd.
So, whether you are a resident or a tourist, Augusta offers a variety of events to cater to different tastes and preferences. From educational hearings to festive celebrations and sport challenges, there’s undoubtedly something for everyone.
