As we gear up for Election Day, residents in Augusta can expect a mix of clouds and the possibility of a few scattered showers. Meteorologist Pierce Larkin from the National Weather Service in Columbia, South Carolina, gave us the scoop on what to anticipate this Tuesday. “It’s been very dry over the last month,” he shared, but added a dash of optimism, saying, “It looks like there might be an isolated shower or two out there on Tuesday; not enough to dampen the day or cause a rainout.”
So, what should you expect? Temperatures are likely to climb to about 79°F during the day, with a low of around 66°F in the evening. A slight chance of showers exists before noon, with the skies becoming partly sunny as the day progresses. A gentle southeast breeze will blow at about 6 to 8 mph, keeping things comfortable. The chance of precipitation is pegged at a modest 20%.
According to Larkin, the cloud cover and isolated rain showers are expected to die down throughout the day. By the afternoon, Augusta should see mostly sunny _to_ partly cloudy skies with that high of near 79 warming up even more into the low 80s as you cast your votes.
Looking back, Larkin pointed out that October was a record-dry month for Augusta, tying for the driest month on record. “There was only a trace of rainfall,” he said, highlighting that the city experienced an impressive 36 consecutive days without measurable precipitation until it finally rained on November 2. “That’s the second-longest streak on record,” he added. The previous record of 37 days without rainfall happened back in November of 2005.
If you haven’t made plans yet, this is the perfect time to check the weather and get out there to make your voice heard—rain or shine. While the forecast suggests that it’ll be a friendly day for heading out to vote, keep in mind that we might see some rain later in the week. Larkin mentioned, “We’re expecting some widespread rain showers by midweek.” However, exact rainfall totals are still somewhat unpredictable, with models giving varying forecasts. “They’re lacking the rendering consistency about totals that we like to see,” he noted, leaving room for uncertainty.
Now, while the thought of rain later in the week might not cause a stir of excitement, many homeowners in the area are keeping a wary eye on the skies. This is particularly true for those who faced damage during Hurricane Helene, as local roofers are already saying it could take months to repair so many homes that suffered damage. If you’re in that situation, being prepared is key.
Residents who are dealing with roof damage should definitely take a moment to review FEMA tips for homeowners. Taking proactive steps can help fortify your home against more weather-related challenges.
As we all stay informed and hopeful for some beneficial rainfall, let’s make the most of Election Day! Whether you’re out voting or just enjoying the day, make sure to soak in those moments before our weather takes a turn later this week.
Stay tuned to local forecasts and be ready for what comes next. Happy voting, Augusta!
