AIKEN, S.C. – After several months of investigation, an 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting that took place earlier this year in Aiken. The incident, which startled the quiet neighborhood, occurred on February 17 when local authorities responded to reports of gunfire in the area.
According to the Aiken Department of Public Safety, officers were called to the 1400 block of Aldrich Street at around 6:52 a.m. on that winter morning. Residents in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots, with one victim recalling that he woke up to the sound of breaking glass in his home.
Upon their arrival, officers found the aftermath of the shooting. The victim informed the police that his back door had been shot, and glass from the door was found scattered around. Further inspection revealed two bullet holes located in the front of the house, along with another bullet hole found in the living room wall. Notably, the glass back door had a bullet hole that penetrated through to the back porch area, indicating the severity of the incident.
Following this incident, local law enforcement began an investigation into the crime. Numerous leads and extensive inquiries were conducted in the following months. Finally, on August 7, police arrested Samarion Fuewell, who is now facing several serious charges related to the incident.
Fuewell has been charged with assault, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, discharging firearms into a dwelling, burglary, and two counts of larceny. This arrest comes as a relief to the community, which has been on edge since the shooting.
The drive-by shooting shocked many in the Aiken community, which is generally known for its low crime rate. Residents expressed their concerns about safety in their neighborhood after the shooting took place. “It’s frightening to think something like this could happen so close to home,” said a local resident. Others shared similar sentiments, highlighting the need for continued vigilance and community policing efforts in response to such incidents.
In the wake of the arrest, local officials have emphasized the importance of community involvement in keeping neighborhoods safe. They encourage residents to report any suspicious activity and work closely with law enforcement. The Aiken Department of Public Safety noted that community tips played a vital role in connecting the dots that led to Fuewell’s arrest.
While this arrest marks a significant development in the case, the Aiken community remains focused on preventing future incidents. Police Chief Lisa Glover stated, “We are committed to ensuring the safety of our residents and taking swift action against those who pose a threat to our community.” Glover also reassured residents that the Department of Public Safety will continue their efforts to reduce crime in the area.
As investigations continue, residents in Aiken are hopeful that this recent event will serve as a reminder of the importance of community solidarity and cooperation in ensuring the safety and well-being of their neighborhoods.
