Aiken Launches Exciting Lifelong Learning Classes for 2025

Aiken Welcomes Lifelong Learning Classes for New Year

Aiken, SC, is gearing up for another exciting semester of classes offered through the Center for Lifelong Learning, a program designed for those eager to dive deeper into various subjects. This initiative is especially tailored to adult learners, particularly seniors, who want to continue their education and personal growth.

What to Expect and When

The upcoming registration period begins on January 8, 2025, with an Open House event taking place from 9 a.m. to noon in the Business and Education Building, room 122. During this event, participants can register in person, obtain essential parking decals, and enjoy complimentary coffee and snacks. For those preferring the convenience of online registration, the registration portal will go live at 9 a.m. on the same day. Classes officially commence on January 13, 2025, providing a diverse selection of around 80 classes available for attendees.

Why Participate?

The Center for Lifelong Learning serves as a valuable community resource, promoting lifelong education since its inception in 1990. This program aims to extend knowledge sharing and stimulate intellectual curiosity among residents of the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA). With no homework or tests involved, participants can immerse themselves in learning for enjoyment.

Variety of Classes Offered

The catalog, now available online at aikenlearning.org, outlines the wealth of classes offered, including general interest lectures and technology courses. Topics range widely—from local history, gardening, and health and wellness to science, literature, and philosophy. Special attention is given to both new learners and those looking to enhance their tech skills through courses targeting both Apple and Windows devices.

Instructors include a mix of university professors and local experts, many of whom bring real-world experience and published expertise into the classroom, enriching the learning environment for everyone involved.

How to Register

For in-person registration, attendees are encouraged to come prepared with their vehicle registration and driver’s licenses for obtaining parking decals. Registration for classes remains open as long as spots are available, allowing flexibility for latecomers. However, starting this semester, registrations by mail or phone will no longer be accepted, ensuring a streamlined process.

A Community Tradition

The holiday season resonates with joyful rhythms as the Savannah River Stringband continues its tradition of providing festive music during the Center for Lifelong Learning’s annual Christmas Drop-in event. This event not only celebrates the season but also fosters community connections among residents of all ages.

Looking Forward

As the New Year approaches, the Center for Lifelong Learning looks forward to continuing its mission of offering engaging educational opportunities. The staff and volunteers express their passion for learning and wish everyone a joyous holiday season filled with happiness and hope for a peaceful world. In the spirit of lifelong learning, residents are encouraged to stay curious and embrace new knowledge as part of their journey.
