The much-loved lecture series, Aiken in The Alley, is making its return, and it promises to be a fantastic lineup of speakers and topics. What’s Happening?

Held at the University of South Carolina Aiken’s facility in The Alley on 139 Newberry St. S.W., this series of lectures is hosted by the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Each session will dedicate an hour to discussing a variety of themes that impact our community and beyond—all while enjoying the company of fellow learners.

To kick off the series, the opening lecture will be given by historian Sarah King. She’ll be delving into an intriguing topic titled, “Draft-motivated, Draft Dodgers, Draft Resistance: Selective Service and the Vietnam War.” As we celebrate Constitution Week, King plans to explore the remarkable intersections between the **Vietnam War** and the U.S. Constitution during the 1960s and 70s. “The Vietnam War and the U.S. Constitution intersected in fascinating ways in the 1960s and ’70s as draftees and their allies in the antiwar movement challenged the Vietnam-era military draft,” she shared.
