Exciting Events and Updates in Aiken
Good morning, Aiken! As we sip our coffees and welcome the day, it’s hard to ignore the possibility of some isolated thunderstorms on the horizon this morning. Don’t forget to grab your umbrella just in case! With a high of 82°F expected and winds blowing gently from the northeast at 10 to 20 mph, we might just see some clouds rolling in this afternoon. There’s about a 30% chance of rain, so keep an eye out! Tonight, we’re looking at cloudy skies again, cooling down to a comfy around 70°F with winds easing a bit to 10 to 15 mph.
Mayor’s Fun Fundraiser
In local news, Aiken Mayor Teddy Milner made quite the splash recently. He was spotted alongside Duke, the cheeky mascot from the Great Oak Equine Assisted Programs. Together, they took part in promoting a special fundraiser happening on September 20. The event is set to take place at the Tidal Wave Auto Spa located at 96 Old Towne Rd., and here’s the best part: Tidal Wave will generously donate 100% of its proceeds from that day to support Great Oak’s wonderful initiatives!
This is a fantastic opportunity to do a little car washing while supporting a great cause, so make sure to swing by and spread the word to your friends and neighbors!
Water Advisory Update
Now, a reminder to some of our residents: Around 100 customers in Aiken have been advised to boil their water before consuming it. The notice affects those living on Plantation Drive and Spring Valley Court. The city announced this precaution on September 11, asking residents to boil their water for at least one minute prior to drinking. It’s always better to be safe than sorry, so if you live in that area, keep this in mind!
Development on the Horizon
As we look to the future, some exciting developments might be coming to Aiken. The Aiken Planning Commission recently voted 6-0 in favor of suggesting some utility service requests for projects that are planned near the intersection of Whiskey-Chukker Creek Road. This means more options for shopping and living could be on the way! Whether it’s a new gas station or a 55-plus housing community, this could provide a nice boost to our city’s offerings.
Union Street Bridge Update
For those who use the Union Street Bridge, we have some news: that bridge won’t be reopening. Aiken City Manager Stuart Bedenbaugh recently chatted with South Carolina Transportation Secretary Justin Powell about the matter. Once a vital cut-through for vehicles, it appears the last car has officially crossed that bridge, making it a wrap for that route. We know many folks in the community relied on that bridge, so stay tuned for updates on any potential alternatives.
Final Thoughts
As we take in these updates, let’s rally together as a community. Whether you’re participating in the fundraiser, keeping an eye on the weather, or staying updated on local news, we all contribute to the vibrant life of Aiken. Enjoy your day, everyone, and don’t forget to support local businesses and initiatives whenever you can!
