Aiken is buzzing with activity this week, and it’s hard to keep up with all the fun and engaging events happening around town! From community gatherings to performances and educational programs, there’s something for everyone in our lovely city.
It’s a beautiful day with clear skies and a comfortable low of 58°F. The weather couldn’t be better for local events. Yesterday, the Mountain Dulcimers of Aiken treated residents to a delightful performance in Houndslake. The sounds of this unique instrument definitely captured the hearts of many!
Looking forward, the Aiken Newcomers’ Club is set to meet Tuesday, September 10, at Newberry Hall, starting at 9:30 a.m.. This meeting is a wonderful opportunity for newcomers to the area to connect and meet interesting folks. Guest speaker Jeff Wallace, a retired news editor from the Aiken Standard, will surely bring engaging insights. Be sure to make a reservation as space is limited!
If you have kids, don’t forget about Fall Story Time, happening Tuesdays at 4 p.m. at the Rye Patch. Bring along your favorite blanket or a lawn chair, and enjoy some good stories on the lawn. It’s a great way to kick back, relax, and enjoy some quality family time. Snacks are welcome, and if the weather doesn’t cooperate, they’ll move inside!
This week also marks the start of the Let’s Talk About discussion series at the Aiken County Public Library, focusing on Southern Novels on the Page and Screen. The first discussion on “Cold Mountain” by Charles Frazier will be held on September 17, led by Dr. Tom Mack. If you’re a book lover, this series is a must-join!
Additionally, the Greater Aiken SCORE will hold a workshop titled Funding Your Small Business on September 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.. This is a fantastic opportunity for entrepreneurs to learn about financing options from experienced presenters. Make sure to register in advance!
The City of Aiken’s Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department will also host a lecture on suicide prevention titled “Shine A Light: Together We Can Prevent Suicide” at 11 a.m. on September 10. This event emphasizes the importance of mental health awareness and community support.
If you’re looking for support groups, there are several options available, such as the Awesome Aiken Al-Anon group and Celebrate Recovery, meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These groups offer a safe space for individuals to share and connect.
And let’s not forget, every Monday, you can join in on Let’s Go Bingo from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Aiken Senior Life Services. It’s a great way to spend time with friends, enjoy some fun, and maybe even win a prize!
The week culminates with a special performance by the Aiken Civic Orchestra titled “Simply Baroque” on September 13 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Music lovers should make it a point to attend this remarkable concert!
So, whether you’re a longtime resident or a newcomer, Aiken has a vibrant mix of events planned that promote community spirit, provide entertainment, and foster connections. Don’t miss out on these wonderful opportunities; join in and make some memories!
