In the charming city of Aiken, the air is filled with artistic energy as the American Academy of Equine Art (AAEA) unveils its latest juried exhibition. This exciting event, which runs from October 24 through November 30, takes place at the Aiken Center for the Arts, inviting art lovers and equine enthusiasts alike to immerse themselves in a world where horses are the centerpiece of creativity.
Visitors to the main gallery will be treated to a stunning collection featuring 75 pieces of artwork created by 59 talented artists from all corners of the nation. The AAEA, founded in 1980, is dedicated to nurturing and promoting artists who share a passion for classical representations of equine subjects. The mission of the AAEA is as clear as it is inspiring: to foster a community that celebrates the horse in both sport and daily life through representational art.
The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to view the kind of artwork that not only showcases the beauty of horses but also illustrates the deep connection between these magnificent animals and their human counterparts. From traditional paintings to contemporary sculptures, the diverse range of styles and techniques highlights the creativity and artistry involved in equine art.
Among the featured artists are several noteworthy talents, including those creating captivating works that fans won’t want to miss. For instance, Yvonne Todd’s “On the Crest Oil” and John Plishka’s “Resplendent in Red” capture the elegance and spirit of horses, while Sharon Matisoff’s “The Four Horsemen” introduces a dynamic narrative through her use of color and form. Additionally, Sally Moren’s “The Hamilton Oaks” beautifully reflects the serene grace of equestrian life.
Alongside the main exhibition, visitors can explore the Aiken Artist Guild Gallery, which features remarkable works by member artists Pamela Moore and Brenda Zaloudek. Moore, who began her career studying fine arts in Germany, has made strides in the art community since returning to the U.S. Her experience includes designing graphics for Lufthansa and working as a master artist at a fine furniture company. She now finds immense joy in teaching others, highlighting her commitment to artistic growth.
Zaloudek’s artistic journey is equally fascinating. Growing up in Oklahoma, she draws inspiration from her agricultural roots and the stories of farmers in her family. Her multimedia creations beautifully resonate with her heritage, showcasing a rich appreciation for her past and all the lessons it has taught her.
But the artistic journey doesn’t end with the featured professionals! The Brooks Gallery is set to dazzle visitors with the imaginative works of students from Oakwood-Windsor Elementary School. Under the guidance of art teacher Brianna Hancock, these young creators have come together to present an exhibit titled “Enchanted Forest”, brimming with whimsical and magical interpretations of nature.
The Aiken Center for the Arts is proud to serve as a platform for inspiring and educating all ages through unique visual and performing arts experiences. Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, it offers a welcoming space for everyone to appreciate the diverse forms of artistic expression.
