Aiken County School District Offers Free Summer Meals for Students

In an impressive act of community service and commitment towards child nutrition, Aiken County School District has been providing free meals to students throughout most of June. The initiative, known as the “Healthy Meals at no Cost” program aims at ensuring that students in the area have continuous access to nutritious food during the summer break.

Program Details and Schedules

The program operates on a well-planned schedule, serving breakfast and lunch for school-aged children under 18 years and those students with disabilities who are 21 years and younger. The meals are provided entirely free of cost. Adults within the community are not left out either, with breakfast and lunch available at prices of $3.10 and $4.85 respectively.

Breakfast is served early in the morning from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., with lunch following at 10:30 a.m. and ending at 12:30 p.m. However, it’s important to note that the last day of this generous program is set for June 27.

Meal Locations

The list of locations where these meals are provided include:

  • Aiken High
  • Midland Valley High
  • North Augusta High
  • Ridge Spring-Monetta Middle-High School
  • Silver Bluff High
  • South Aiken High
  • Wagener-Salley High

For additional information or inquiries about the program, members of the community have been advised to reach out to the respective Child Nutrition supervisors via their listed contact numbers.

Advancing Child Nutrition

The “Healthy Meals at no Cost” program aligns with a broader commitment to safeguard child nutrition during school holiday periods. Often during these times, children may lack regular access to balanced meals which are otherwise assured during the normal school calendar. Programs such as this provide the vital carbohydrates, proteins, and vitamins that our children need to grow and learn, ultimately fulfilling the role of a wholesome education – feeding both mind and body.

Conclusion

As the saying goes, “it takes a village to raise a child.” Aiken County School District’s “Healthy Meals at no Cost” program demonstrates that adage perfectly. By assuring access to nutritious meals during the summer, it ensures no child in the school district miss a healthy meal. Recognition and gratitude are owed to everyone involved in this program; from concept to table, their work is a shining example of a community at work.
