As the crisp autumn air settles in, the residents of Aiken are coming together to enjoy a busy slate of community events and advocacy. With a focus on peace, creativity, and connection, there’s something for everyone in the upcoming days!
The week kicks off with a heartfelt gathering as the Women in Black and Moms Demand Action host a Vigil for Peace and Nonviolence on Monday, November 18th, from 4 PM to 5 PM. This event, taking place across from the Fresh Market on Whiskey Road, invites everyone—men, women, and children—to join in a call for an end to gun violence.
If you’re interested in attending, bring a nonpartisan sign or feel free to use one provided at the vigil. Don’t worry if you can’t stand for long—you’re welcome to bring a chair! For more details, connect with Lynn at 501-499-4485 or Brenda at 803-648-6020. It’s a lovely opportunity to stand in unity for a cause that touches many lives.
If you’re looking for a little fun and games, head over to the Aiken Senior Life Services for Let’s Go Bingo on Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM. With a mere $5 cover charge and game cards ranging from $1 to $25, it’s a budget-friendly way to enjoy a lively evening with friends and family. For more information, check out their Facebook page at facebook.com/letsgobingoaiken.
On Tuesday, November 19th, aspiring musicians can join the Mountain Dulcimers of Aiken at Living Hope Fellowship Church at 5 PM. This gathering welcomes players of all levels and anyone eager to learn more about this unique instrument. For questions about the group, contact Gary Warnock at 740-352-7819.
Also on Tuesday, from 3 PM to 6 PM, the Aiken County Public Library invites kids aged 3-12 to drop in for Build It. Little ones can let their imaginations soar with blocks, magna tiles, and more! Parents are welcome to bring younger siblings along.
Literary discussions are buzzing at the library too! The Let’s Talk About series continues with a focus on Southern Novels. This Tuesday features the classic The Color Purple by Alice Walker. Join Dr. Matt Miller for the film screening at 5:30 PM and a lively discussion at 6:30 PM. Don’t miss this insightful event!
Aiken is also home to several support groups aimed at fostering community connections. The Awesome Aiken Al-Anon group meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at First Christian Church, while Nar-Anon offers support for families of those struggling with addiction every Tuesday at St. John’s Methodist Church. Celebrate Recovery is available on Tuesday nights at Cedar Creek Church as well.
On November 20th, comedy lovers can enjoy Unleashed: An Evening of Improv starring Schrodinger’s Cat at the Amentum Center for the Performing Arts at 7 PM. Tickets are priced at $77, which includes a pre-show reception. Just a heads up—the show is intended for mature audiences!
Amidst these gatherings, the community will also celebrate the 13th annual Turkey Trot 5K at Citizens Park on November 28th! Registration kicks off the holiday season with proceeds supporting local Toys for Tots. Mark your calendars and get ready for some pre-Thanksgiving exercise!
There’s no shortage of activities in Aiken this November. Whether you’re raising your voice for peace or looking to connect in creative ways, the community spirit is alive and well. Step outside and join in the fun—all are welcome!
