Aiken Clinic Expands Services with New Building
AIKEN, S.C. – A brand new clinic designed specifically for women and children has just opened its doors in Aiken. Rural Health Services has moved to a new facility situated directly across the street from its original location, aiming to meet the growing demand for healthcare in the area.
Rural Health Services is a non-profit health center that provides vital medical services to Aiken County and its surrounding communities. The organization realized that its previous facility was no longer sufficient to handle the number of patients seeking their help. Liz Stewart, the board chair of Rural Health Services, explained, “When we built the Clyburn Center 10 years ago, we thought that it would last us 20 years and it has not. We have outgrown and had a need.”
New Building, New Opportunities
The recently constructed Emanuel-McClain Women and Children’s Health Center has been in the works for three years and is now ready to welcome patients. According to CEO Carolyn Emanuel-McClain, this new facility is designed to broaden the array of healthcare services available to the community. “The importance of this center is it gives us a phenomenal capacity to serve children and women. That’s prenatal care, OBGYN, mammograms, regular women services, as well as children of all ages,” Emanuel-McClain stated.
One of the significant focuses of the new clinic is providing resources to new mothers. Emanuel-McClain highlighted the various services available to assist moms, including education on breastfeeding and parenting skills. “We have what’s called a diaper room where we have free diapers and supplies new moms may need for their babies when they come in and we provide them with that,” she elaborated.
A Community-Centric Approach
Stewart emphasized that the facility is designed for everyone, stating, “We just want to remind the community that this is a community center. It is for all people, if you have insurance, if you don’t, if you’re employed, if you’re not, it doesn’t matter. We are here to serve.”
Emanuel-McClain also shared her vision for the new building, saying, “This facility would be serving any and every person that walks through this door that needs a service that’s provided, and we make a healthier being here and continuing to be here throughout the years.”
Continued Commitment to Adult Care
While the new center specializes in women’s and children’s health, the original building will still be in use, focusing on providing healthcare services for adults. This dual approach allows Rural Health Services to cater to a broader range of patients while continuing to meet the needs of existing clients.
