Aiken Brings Together Art and Nature in “Into the Woods” Exhibition

Meet the Artists
This unique exhibition will highlight the incredible works of landscape and abstract artist Jessica Graham, along with talented woodworkers including Richard Cale, Eddie Huff — known to many as the Carolina Carver — John Jones, and the creative duo Janet and Walt Koertge. It’s a chance to dive into a world where wood and art intersect beautifully!
Opening Reception Details
The excitement kicks off with a free opening reception on Dec. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitors will get a first look at the art, connect with the artists, and perhaps enjoy a delightful evening filled with good company and inspiring conversations. A Glimpse at Jessica Graham’s Journey
Jessica Graham isn’t just any artist; she comes from a multigenerational family of creators. With a B.S. in interior design and a minor in art, her formal education perfectly complements her natural talent. After years in the corporate sector, Graham decided to take a leap into full-time artistry, aiming to capture the essence of her subjects while leaving space for viewers’ imaginations. Her work emphasizes softer edges and luminous layers, inviting everyone to see beyond the canvas.
Meet the Woodworkers
Woodworking isn’t just a hobby for these artists; it’s a passion they pour their hearts into. Richard Cale, for instance, has been mesmerizing people with his turnings since 1976! His goal? To take what many see as “ugly” wood and transform it into something beautiful or useful. With his fine burn lines created using 12,000 volts of electricity, Cale’s pieces tell a story of innovation and artistry.
And then we have Eddie Huff, the Carolina Carver, who found his love for carving songbirds back in 1986. After a pause to focus on football coaching, he returned to his passion, capturing the beauty of birds like cardinals and bluebirds right from his backyard. Every piece is lovingly hand-carved, from log to art!
John Jones has been a furniture designer for over 40 years, turning woodworking into a post-retirement passion. He loves collaborating with clients to create timeless heirlooms with intricate designs, steeped in craftsmanship. His stunning creations can be found in homes all around the country, each piece unique and filled with character.
The Koertge Team
Last but certainly not least, we have Janet and Walt Koertge, who have been turning wood into treasure since the early ’80s. With a hefty lathe to maneuver and plenty of creativity at their fingertips, they are dedicated to crafting pieces that resonate with the beauty of nature.
