After the storm caused damage to their facility, GAP Ministries had to temporarily close its doors for a week. However, the resilient team quickly bounced back and reopened, welcoming back both familiar faces and new visitors they’re now able to assist. “It was beautiful to see some of the faces of people we’ve been worried about and then also to be able to help more people that we now know we will see as a result of the storm,” said Nomi Stanton, the executive director of GAP Ministries. Whether it’s providing food, helping individuals secure identification, or supplying essential household items such as diapers and adult incontinence products, the organization strives to meet the diverse needs of families. The recent surge in visitors, with numbers skyrocketing to nearly 270 families seeking assistance in a week, indicates just how crucial their services are now. “We’re seeing a really big need for diapers and adult incontinence products,” Stanton noted. “We’ve seen a huge increase just last week and in our food pantry as well.”

As Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month unfolds, GAP Ministries doesn’t overlook the challenges women face while battling the disease. They continue to shine a light on these issues, reminding everyone of the collective responsibility of the community to support one another. Yet, as the demand for services grows, the organization recognizes the need for ongoing support. “Even though we’ve received a large amount of donations, we know that we are not going to be able to sustain if we continue to see a hike in need,” Stanton cautioned.
