Art Calendar Celebration

Exciting News in Aiken: An Interactive Calendar for Art Lovers!

This weekend, Aiken residents have something special to look forward to as Betsy Wilson-Mahoney, a beloved local artist, is set to release her annual Aiken-themed calendar! Dubbed “Aiken, A Closer Look,” this year’s calendar not only showcases stunning art but also adds a fun twist that invites everyone—young and old—to get involved!

A Calendar Like No Other

For just $25, art enthusiasts can purchase the calendar starting Friday, October 11, at Aiken Antique Mall, located at 112 Laurens St. S.W. The doors will open at 10 a.m., and attendees will also get the chance to meet Betsy, who will be signing calendars from 10 a.m. to noon on October 11, and again from noon until 3 p.m. on October 12.

This year, each month features a beautiful painting of a different location in Aiken, and the best part? It’s an interactive game! Here’s how it works:

How to Play

  1. Purchase your calendar at Aiken Antique Mall starting at 10 a.m. on October 11.
  2. On the back of the calendar, you’ll find an official form where you can identify the 12 paintings along with their locations.
  3. Return your completed form to the Aiken Antique Mall; it will be dated and time-stamped upon collection.
  4. Every Monday starting October 14, the completed forms will be reviewed. The first 12 people who correctly identify all 12 paintings will win a chance to select one of the original pieces as their prize!

A Community Experience

Betsy Wilson-Mahoney envisions this calendar being more than just a piece of art—it’s a chance for families to bond. “Aiken is filled with beautiful architecture and details all around downtown and everywhere you look, so let’s take a look together and appreciate the little things,” she shared, highlighting her hope that it will provide an engaging activity for parents, grandparents, or even as part of a scavenger hunt with friends.

Beyond the calendar release, Aiken’s artistic community continues to thrive. The upcoming months are packed with events that promise to keep the community vibrant and engaged. For instance, the 33rd Annual Edward Teller Lecture and Banquet will take place on October 24, at the Columbia County Expo Center in Grovetown, Georgia. Sponsored by Citizens for Nuclear Technology Awareness, this annual lecture serves as a public outreach event, showcasing the importance of science and technology in our lives.

Seasonal Events Ahead

As we settle into fall, Aiken is also getting ready for other local attractions. The popular Western Carolina State Fair will kick off on October 11 at the Aiken fairgrounds, another signal that autumn festivities are in full swing. Whether you’re looking to enjoy thrilling rides, tasty fair food, or local art, there’s something for everyone as we celebrate this vibrant season.

So, whether you’re a local or just visiting, make sure to check out Betsy Wilson-Mahoney’s interactive calendar. It promises to be a delightful way to explore the beauty of Aiken while having a little fun along the way! Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to enjoy art in your community!
