Community Comes Together in Aiken, S.C. for Hurricane Helene Recovery

As the city of Aiken continues to recover from the impact of Hurricane Helene, there’s a buzz of activity aimed at helping residents bounce back. The South Carolina Department of Insurance is stepping up to provide crucial assistance by hosting an insurance claims “village” this coming Monday and Tuesday. It’s a fantastic opportunity for locals to get the help they need!

When and Where to Find Help

The claims village will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both days, and it will be set up in the parking lot of Aldi at 2510 Whiskey Road. So if you’ve been affected by the hurricane and need guidance on handling your insurance claims, this is the place to be!

Who Will Be There?

Expect a range of insurance representatives to lend their expertise. Major companies like State Farm, USAA, Allstate, South Carolina Farm Bureau, Auto-Owners, Travelers, Progressive, Nationwide, and Heritage insurance will have reps present. That means you can get personalized answers to your questions directly from the professionals!

Consumer Services at Your Fingertips

In addition to insurance companies, folks from the South Carolina Department of Insurance’s Office of Consumer Services will also be on hand. They’re ready to assist and provide essential information to help community members navigate the often tricky claims process.

How to Protect Yourself from Scams

Unfortunately, after severe weather events, scammers love to take advantage of vulnerable homeowners. The Department of Insurance will share tips on how to avoid falling prey to these bad actors. It’s important to stay vigilant, especially during such challenging times.

Severe weather can lead to necessary repairs and costs, but it seems as common as storm damage are those looking to make a quick buck off of others’ misfortunes. Being informed is your best defense!

Need More Information?

If you can’t make it to the claims village but still have questions or need advice, you can reach out to the South Carolina Department of Insurance’s Office of Consumer Services at 803-737-6180. They’re there to help you find the answers you need.
